I would think that it's on the Kalumburu Road, before the King Edward River in the Kimberley.
Takes some getting to.. The road before this sign is just a tad rough too..
close enough! On the Mitchell Falls side of King Edward River crossing.

After a very long and decorated history, in 1931, she was renamed Sidney and sold to the Victorian Lighterage Co. for use as a wool lighter. During July 1943, Protector was requisitioned for war service by the US Army. En-route to New Guinea and off Gladstone, she was damaged in a collision with a tug and abandoned. The hull was taken to Heron Island and later sunk for use as a breakwater.
As in the story of the Yongala wreck, its is good that out of tragedy comes such a wonderful dive site. It teems with fishlife, like a real life aquarium. Beautiful spot Heron Island.
Over to you Chippy...
You're here for a good time, not a long time... Love my Prado...
What is it with everybody on the Eastern seaboard? There always is a sign that says its the only/biggest/smallest/most/least 'blah blah' in the world or Australia or the southern hemisphere. We see this everywhere. It's just like 'small man's syndrome'. I have so many examples where these claims are just totally wrong.
In this case, there is a beach in WA (Kwinana Beach) that also is a recreational beach that 10 years ago (the last time I was there) had a ship wreck - and the ship was the 'Kwinana'. I must admit in this situation I still have to check this 100% - but since the spot came up....
Anyway...try this one. For anyone that has been there, it should be easy.

And I bet the ship at Kwinana was bigger anyway...
Some of it may be to just try and keep up with us guys in the West, where everything is big. (or just normal to us 8) )

Yep and also a Ship wreck called the Mandalay at Mandalay beach just West of Waslpole . And I have surfed at this beach a couple of times , ( because the surf is alot bigger over in the West ) which surely makes it a '' RECREATIONAL BEACH "

Some of us don't go to see the
only/biggest/smallest/most/least blah, blah in the world
We live here..   It's great that we can go and see them if we want to.
As someone originally from Perth, I love the west and it has its share of
only/biggest/smallest/most/least 'blah blah' in the world
too. Maybe it is the commercialism that works over here but once you have lived here, you realize that its worth seeing the
only/biggest/smallest/most/least 'blah blah' in the world
over here.
The "Where the bloody hell are you" campaign and those similar 'Chuck another shrimp onthe Barbie' ads have netted so many tourists and tourism generated industries over here, or at least dragged some of those industries up to standard. This should work all over Australia but from my experiences, you notice it more over here. Besides, doesn't WA have a big ram somewhere?? Also, there's nothing to compare with the Kimberley. That is world class and should be on everyones TO DO list..
Anyway, it's worth seeing WA just as much as QLD,NSW etc. There's just not so much distance between them for that 'kid driven' souvenier, that cappuccino, the ice cream, a wee stop or attraction.
Hope to see you here some time..

No ideas? Actually the photo should be 16:9 wide screen which would give a little more detail but I can't seem to get it to display correctly. Photobucket seems to show it OK.
