Interest seems to have dropped so think I'd better give a few hints before the weekend as I wont be around till Monday and I enjoy this thread (when I get the time), so dont want to see it die.

I fink ntpryce may be right :lol: . Its the football oval on the outskirts of Finke. The attached photo was taken on the same spot and shows the starting point for day 2 of Finke Desert Race.Originally posted by ntpryce
We travelled along the old Ghan track to Alice Springs, its probably the most mind numbing drive I think I've ever done. Two tracks run side by side most of the way, one is the old railway line and the other is used for the desert race.
The railway line has 6 inch corrugations about every metre where the sleepers used to be and the race track has thousands of whoopties every couple of metres, so you either get shaken to death by the corrugations or spend hours nauseatingly rolling up and down in your seat.
Added to the fun on the railway line was hundreds of dog spikes left lying in the sand, so you had to try and avoid them as well if you didnt want a flat. We chopped and changed tracks the whole way along as we got sick of each one.
What was supposed to be a shortcut to Alice ended up taking all day and as a result we had to give Chambers Pillar a miss.

I agree, that was my first thought too...but I haven't any photos to confirm it.
What made me think of that was the pub on the corner, but I don't remember the building at the jetty end.....I do remember a lot of street art around.
