  • Pradopoint Petroglyphs

Many of you pradopointers have been to some remote areas and no doubt come across evidence of our first Australians through amazing rock carvings tens of thousands of years old (Petroglyphs).

Post you photos and location so others can see them too, and share in our amazing Australian history.

An example to kick things off from N'Dhala Gorge (East MacDonnell Ranges, Central Australia):

And Roma Gorge (West MacDonnell Ranges):

These are from Ngaut Ngaut, pronounced Naught Naught (as in the number Zero), on the banks of the River Murray near Swan Reach in SA. Access is only available with guided tours from the local custodians.

I should also have quite a few pictures from N'Dahla Gorge and Etiwanga, but they seem to have mysteriously vanished Might be a good excuse to return!

I have quite a bit of rock art as well, but they aren't Petroglyphs, I can post them if people want to see.

          Cheers Andrew

Pretty sure it is only of scared or religious sites you need to be aware of, and that's usually well advertised. Definitely around Uluru there are signs telling you can't take photos in certain places. Given that AJ was on a tour by permission of the local custodians they would have said whether he could take photos or not.

That depends on where you are, Split rock up Cape York is one that comes to mind where they ask you not to take photo's, having said that you couldn't move there without getting in the way of someone's picture, so virtually no one was taking any notice of that.

No issues with the pictures I took at Naught Naught, as R4ndll pointed out, I was with the local Aboriginals and they were fine with it.

The photos from Mount Chambers gorge, if you read the information sign at the start of the gorge it gives tips on how to photograph them. Not sure if you will be able to read that on the picture below.

I actually have some pictures from what I can only assume is a very sacred aboriginal sight, forget petroglyphs and paintings, way more sacred than that. Once again there was no issue with taking photos, but personally I would never post those on the internet, nor would I reveal online where I took the pictures.

Oh and I remembered another spot, these were taken at Carnarvon Gorge QLD, a combination of Petroglyphs and painting.

I am sure I have more pictures from other places, just have to remember where they might be in the zillion or so pictures I have

                          Cheers Andrew

At least when taking photos I only leave behind footprints in the sand, not dirty nappies and empty VB cans.
