Another "classic" is the Centenary Motorway going from Wacol to Toowong in Brisvegas, total length with no change to lane numbers or width, spped limit chnages at least 6 times, cash for flash on it all the time. Revenue Raising apparently not!

What ticks me off? As of 8am tomorrow absolutely nothing because I'm heading off for 8 weeks in the Prado with the camper trailer and missus. Yippee.

Why do the state government in QLD, call these roads, motorways. Motorways are supposed to have a constant speed limit on them. The Centenary Motorway is just a balls up. At least, it doesn't have a toll on it yet.
As I said before, governments have to start being there for the people, not for themselves.
This safety thing is a load of crap in QLD. Why, I hear you say. There is no road worthy every 12 months. Like, take the vehicle I just worked on the last couple of days, a 105 series which weighs about 3 tonne. No brakes, no hand brake, etc, etc, etc...... a killing machine before it was fixed. There are so many vehicles like this one running around, death traps.
Road safety, no I don't think so, Mr. Newman. And get this, Newman's an engineer. I just don't get these people, the political class.

I noticed this when a went to Cairns to work a few years ago..........the amount of un-roadworthy vehicles getting around was shocking,just walking through a carpark you would see so many cars with bald tyres it was madness let alone what other mechanical defects they may have had.

Must be very frustrating being a mechanic having to perform minor repairs/services on vehicles knowing that they're going back out on the road unroadworthy because the owners are to ignorant to keep them in a safe operating condition! I guess all you guys can do as a duty of care is to advise the owners and hope they take your advice... I do hope there's no legal obligation when releasing an unroadworthy vehicle?

I remember being up on Samurai beach up near Stockton beach and not paying attention to the tide...it comes in real quick, the tide started around 5-7 meters from the car and within a short time it was lapping at the tyres, that got my FULL ATTENTION :-)

I either put it in writing, the defects, or say to the customer 'you can't drive the vehicle to it is fixed because it is dangerous to do so'.
Like the customer of the 105, he was disappointed, but I gave him a lift home that afternoon. On Saturday the job was finished.
Sometimes, it's the mechanical industry itself that does the wrong thing by doing poor work and taking short cuts.
If you get someone that you trust to fix and maintain your vehicle, stick with them, as they are fairly rare these days.
You will probably pay a bit more for it, and they may take a bit longer to do things, but hay, it's the quality thing that really matters, I think.

Carol and I are spending a long weekend up in Tennant Creek. We don't have a car so we're enjoying walking about the place. In the more remote communities you see some pretty interesting stuff and we've seen cars that just should be on the road. Add to it the number of kids without seatbelts, things tend not to end well up here. Noticed also the Holden/Toyota dealer (Kittles) has pulled out of town and there is 1-2 "general mechanics" places all selling $4999 cars (matches the baby bonus spend). Suspect any new car in Tennant will need to go to either Katherine or Alice for a "Factory Service"....Personally I'd go up north and not give Kittles a dime...

My peeve is going to a business and asking for a quote on some thing and then never hearing back. It is bu@#sh#t the way we get treated. Then people accuse you of not supporting local business when you shop else where.

Having the same issues at the moment with our rental property, need 2 x new AC's that we get told are broken (3 months after they broke down mind you) and still waiting for the quotes from Friday week a go... Close to 8 grand to replace them both (both under fusion in our insurance so its a guaranteed job for him), 3 calls to his mobile, 2 to his office and an email with the claim number, still nothing...

When I was getting quotes to cut down three massive gums in my yard a couple of months ago I got sick of chasing people to pay them to do something.
I said yes to the 2nd quote... they never rang back so I got another quote... I said yes to the third quote (about the same price) and they also didn't call back when they said they would... so, finally the 4th quote came in a couple of hundred cheaper and they did it old school (climbed the tree rather than lifts) and were great... funny thing was, they drove off without taking the cash!! I then called them twice and left messages... it was a week before he called back and then expected me to drop the cash off to his work. What the!! bugger that, if you want it you'll accept a funds transfer or come and get it...

Sheezzzz the amount of running around to actually get someone to do something these days...
