Having posts deleted or censored, even when they are not offensive. I smell double standards.
If you are going to censor or delete my posts at least have the courtesy to let me know in a private message, and not play little hitler.

Next time a tradie tells me there quit and whine about it, they won't get any sympathy from me. Can't believe the amount we rang to get quotes for things and yeah mate I'm busy at the moment I'll ring you back only to have no one call back ranging from plumbers, gypies, tilers even this week down to a mobile car detailer I'm trying to organise to get my mums ccar detailed buffed etc as a surprise for her while she is overseas for 3 weeks, bloody unbelievable. People complain about overseas taking all our work well I can say out of all the tradies we needed only one was an Aussie which was the sparky. And I can say they did a bloody brilliant job and went out if there way to make sure every thing was done right and we were happy, even the new bench top was done by a bloke who hardly spoke a word of English but did a top job..... Unfortunately you are asking for a quote . You are asking someone who is busy actually doing paying work to come and look at something for free and take a guess at what it might cost to do the job so that you can play them off against someone else who will offer to do the job for 10 bucks cheaper without any guarantee that they will get the job. Then when you haven't actually told them what you want and you change your mind half way through the job and want something different at the same price , you get the shits and decide not to pay the tradie for 3 Months or until you get sued for the money . I don't do quotes for the simple reason that I can go bankrupt sitting on a bar stool at the pub , it's so much more pleasurable than busting your arse for someone else and ending up the same way . With quotes , someone always gets ripped off . If I have to give one ,then I'm gonna make damn sure that if the shit hits the fan , I'm still gonna make it worth my while . So you won't go with that quote because its too high , you will go with joe blogs down the road who quoted slightly less but will eventually hit you with extras . I work with all trades every day and most would prefer do and charge rates , it works out better for both sides USUALLY . Quotes yeah I have wasted so much time trying to help people for nothing in return . That's why you don't get call backs from busy tradies . And the ones who are worth a pinch of pelicans poo , they DON'T advertise in the yellow pages.

I know what your saying Kav but isn't quotes part of running these types of businesses ?? I don't usually play one against the other as generally I wouldn't have a clue what some this is worth in regards to what we were doing and most jobs were straight forward eg moving a drain pipe from one spot in the kitchen to another, doing the cornice's around the new kitchen over head cupboards, disconnecting and connecting the new cooktop and oven, benchtop (there's the cupboards and draws put a granite top on it) etc. I don't have the know how or the tools to do these things, but trying to get some one was a joke. Even some of them were asking over the phone dimensions of things, how far to move drain etc and obviously I could give them a rough measurement, one even asked me what was in my slab, by this time I was starting to get pissed off so I said, concrete, how the hell am I to know if it had that foam crap in it or not. Anyway we got every thing done and I have kept the numbers of all of them and would recommend them to anyone. Are the cheap or not ?? wouldn't have a clue but they di a quality job that I can tell.........Cheers Steve Yes Kav we did have some that worked by the hour, the sparkie was one of them, extremely neat and tidy....

Or better, you give us the bill and we have not got the money, as we didn't know what the jobs worth? Or that u charged me double, like a mate, yeah no worries mate I look after you his mate said to him, $60 per hr, months later here's the bill, $100,000 to wire I house????WTF.??? Ahhhrgggg that's ok mate, just make it 60k???? Wtf???? Now you wait 3 months or forever for $$$$ because you didn't quote.
Now I know quotes are a p.i.t.a, and a waste of time often, but many ppl have to do the quotes to get the work.
Be clear about the work & the price in writing I think is the best way to avoid these bad experiences.

I had 3 quotes for my concrete I just had done, went with the dearest, gave Him $500 extra cash because I was very happy.
People that don't call back & come to do quotes shit me off too, but I've got the shits tonite. Hopefully I wake up better in the morning.

Been sitting back over the last month or so, enjoying the banter and formation of your new club - even posted a few times in your SWMBO thread.

Not quite sure of the reason of your post deletes in other threads recently , but can guess to do with "possum" posts irrelevant to the subject at the time.

Like you all we come on PP, to learn more about our beloved prado's and review post relevant to our interests at the time, but feel liberty is taken by the possum club to post all over the place....

Just my thoughts on the subject at the moment, you feel offended by your post removal, but I feel offended by possum posts appearing every where - think the mods are justified in cleaning up PP for all members

Hi Steve ,#### , I hear where your coming from , there are rip off merchants in all fields of life . Yeah mates rates ? I personally don't do them for anyone , when someone wants mates rates ,you have to ask ,and so what are you going to do for me to even the ledger . Some of the problems you describe sounds like you are project managing your own reno/build . Hear me ,I'm not having a go at you guys , but this is where people have problems with tradies . I have met some exceptional owner builders that would run rings around 80% of the builders out there , but with all these new home building shows everybody is a builder /renovator . That's fine but when you get little jobs like doing this or that and yo need a specific trade to do it , then you need to call someone and get a quote where as if you have a professional builder running the job , he knows how long or what it will take and has a list of tradies on standby that will come and do the job and if they rip off the builder then they won't be getting anymore work . But yeah there are assholes in all walks of life in every profession . Personally I rarely work for anyone other than builders / tradies simply because they know what is needed and approx what it will cost , how long it will take , yes that cuts down my clientele but its not worth the grief or wasted time . These comments are NOT directed at anyone here and not representative of anyone else in the building industry . I'm just trying to help you understand why you might encounter some of the problems . Fair enough Kim but I say again that there are OT posts in lots of threads that don't get removed. Ours have been noticed because they make reference to possums yet it seems other OT posts don't get noticed.

In my own defence I was responding to another member in the thread where my post was deleted, not posting just to annoy people. I make no apology for doing so, it was a Campfire thread after all.

I think you're taking this a little too seriously. OT posts and banter in threads is ok as it is usually a post or 2 then it ends. The last week or so every thread has been infiltrated with possum posts, they're the posts I am referring to.

Possums in SWMBO and other OT stuff is ok provided it doesn't get out of hand and take over the thread is how I read this. I seem to remember making that suggestion a few weeks ago. No harm done, no need for angst.
