Hey Ben,

I brought boxes home yesterday to start packing. We don't really want the usual 'randomly throwing everything into boxes with a day to go' scenario.
We'll be giving away most of our things anyway.
The a/c in the car is knackered, so starting the trip in 40+ temperatures won't be fun but at least it will get cooler the closer to home we get.
We could even truck the car home and fly out of Yulara

So driving home tonight, the wife spots a couple on the footpath having a bit of a blue. I slow down to keep an eye on things and realize that its physical and escalating.

I proceed to pull over and keep them in front of the car with the dashcam recording.

I tell my wife to wait for me to intervene and then for her to come and remove the girl from the situation.

My wife having come from an abusive relationship in the past must've misunderstood the word "wait" and interpreted it as "get out of the car running before it stops"

By the time I get out she has already jumped inbetween the two and the lowlife has started towards my wife. I've grabbed his from behind as he pulled back to swing at my wife again. I twist it behind his back and throw him to the ground with a warning to please stay down while we leave... I didn't think he would agree and I was right. He came up swinging wildly and blindly. This time I grabbed him by the scruff of his shirt and flung him towards the Prado expecting him to land face first across the bonnet. He didn't... He dove teeth first into the top rung of the bullbar.

My wife called the police and ambulance while I looked after the lowlife to make sure he didn't choke on his own teeth or anything. (Read as I sat my 115kg weight on his chest with my knees pinning his biceps to the ground while he gurgled abuse at me)

Did I go too far? Well the camera shows me throwing him face first into my bullbar. My intent was different but that means little.

I was asked to the station for questioning. I told them I would go but I will drive myself as a voluntary act. Otherwise I would need to be arrested and that I would then refuse to speak to them without at least my solicitor with me.

On the way to the station we called our lawyer and solicitor and at his advice to not give any information other than our personal details and if what I say is true then to voluntarily offer the SD card from my dashcam and to not answer any questions until tomorrow when he will go in with me for a formal interview. Gave them the card told them what I had been advised and the officer said that it probably wasn't bad advice and that I'm not being detained but please come in at 8am tomorrow

I've been told that the young girl has denied her boyfriend attacked her (despite a fat lip and black eye) and they were simply having a verbal disagreement on the way home from a party. Also that I pulled over and "just kinda went like all crazy and stuff".... Thought I was quite calm. Poor kid probably doesn't realize I've given them evidence of him striking her, attempting to strike my wife numerously, me disabling him in a nonthreatening but physical manner and asking him to stay put... Then the clincher, me slamming him face first into the bullbar. If he hadn't been so damn fat he would've hit the bonnet like I planned and been OK.

Why am I telling you guys this? Buggered if I know. Perhaps because you guys are from the generation that I grew up in where women are treated with respect and as the fairer sex at all times. Regardless.

I do have one question that is burning me up...... Do you think I'll get my sd card back? It was a 32gb with some funny traffic moments stored on it that I've been meaning to upload lol

Oh man I feel for ya. Sometimes when you try to do the right thing for people they don't appreciate it. Had it happen to me a few times.
If you don't get the sd card back I'll buy you one. One good deed deserves another.
Ps hope he didn't dent the bullbar

I doubt you'll see your card again. It's now lost in police evidence.
Sadly whilst there is good intent in your actions, I think you're in a position of possibly being charged with common assault occasioning bodily harm.
I'd be taking your lawyer back in with you.
His advice is correct, don't say a thing until your represented.
I gather you're now not in possession of a copy of the contents of the card?
Hopefully the police do have proof that he acted in a physical manner to his partner.
Again, take a lawyer with you..

Just scrubbing up to head in now. Piggy you're dead right. I do face being charged, regardless of what the girlfriend says.

I haven't said a single word to the police so far, 10 years in the US taught me that one although our police are much easier to get along with.

Reality is I was being sarcastic about the SD card but I presume my lawyer will be getting a copy of the necessary files. If not there is going to be hell to pay. Didn't sleep much last night. Mostly due to my wife ranting and raving about the justice system and how prehistoric it is or something similar. Definetly more revved up then myself.

Lawyer says there is nothing to worry about and a few comments made from the police officers last night kind of suggest he is right.

Can I just clear up... I have absolutely no problem with the police at all. I'm no rebel without a cause and I think they do a great job and handled me with a lot of respect... Lowlife on the other hand wasn't treated quite so nicely by them. If this is anything to go by... Then lawyer is right, no stress. But there is definetly the potential for me to be charged as the evidence is in their hands. Its just what they choose to do with it.

I don't regret my actions... Just need to work on my aim a littlr

Fingers crossed for a positive outcome RanJ. Unfortunately you and your wife are of the minoritory in the fact that most people would not want to get involved and just drive past and the let the young girl cop even more of a hiding. It's a real shame so I congratulate you. Hopefully the oxygen thief will think about his brutish act every time he looks in the mirror and sees a toothless coward looking back at him.

Hope it turns out well for you and the dash cam backs you up. Though you never can tell what the other side will do. Sadly it appears what is morally right and what is legally right are becoming separated, and that's not the cops fault. They seem to be caught in the middle more and more.
As you are probably aware, unfortunately, I doubt you'll get any help from his girlfriend

This ^ will likely be the attitude of the police & they will appreciate your work.

Sometimes you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. Have tried to intervene before when a female was being mistreated only to be abused myself by her who then defended the actions of the aggressor . Hopefully this would only be a minority but did make me think why I was wasting my time. I would do it again though . Congrats to you Ranj as yes a lot of folks would simply ignore it cause it's not there problem

Well it has been interesting morning with some amazing results. I'll give the full goss shortly.... But long story short, my dashcam apparently stopped recording after he took a swing at my wife.... As the cop said... Can't trust technology!

Glad to hear.
One word of advice. I wouldn't post too publicly on social media or otherwise if it works in your way by some lucky miscarriage of justice. ( such as missing footage).
These are publicly accessible forums and if a perp wished to obtain info for a lawsuit of his own it's all here to see.

So... Turned up this morning to give a statement with my lawyer. Was informed about missing footage and consequently no evidence showing the altercation between myself and the man. Although there was enough footage on there for the police to go ahead with charges against him in regards to his girlfriend.

During his interview at the hospital last night he apparently spilled the beans on himself anyway.

We were met at the station by the young girl and her parents. She was there to change her statement and to press charges against him. Her mother hugged both my wife and myself and thanked us for rescuing her daughter. Her father started to shake my hand but then grabbed me in a massive bear hug and burst into tears himself. Apparently they've had their suspicions but daughter would always defend him.

My wife spoke to the young girl at length about her own past and how she understands how difficult it is to speak up but that she needs to put an end to it. She then offered to go into the interview room with her. I then suggested that our lawyer goes in also. Her parents went to decline as they couldn't afford a lawyer (who happens to be a friend of mine) but he said he would be more than happy to sit in there for no fee.

All in all great result. The police were extremely accommodating and helpful, doing everytging they could to help the young girl.

The only thing I'm not very keen on is that she is too scared to go home with her parents for fear of his retaliation. SWMBO pipes up and says that she is to stay with us for a week. Not keen. But SWMBO has spoken.

Well... What an interesting 12 hour adventure! I'll never again say that my life is boring.

Of course the man can still attempt to press charges against me but with no evidence only his word against mine AMD at the minimum, my wife's.... It won't hold much water.
