Showing someone you're winch that you have never used and finding out that it doesnt work..... further inspections find that the control box was full of water! I'm furious!!! Lucky I havent decided to go get bogged in the middle of no where with no reception, or I'd be screwed!

Hopefully its still under warranty!!! :?

Most winches are not waterproof. Check out last edition 126 of 4wd monthly magazine. They conducted a comprehensive water resistance comparison on various winches. Could provide some insight when finding a replacement.

                Rabbit Stew ??

1 rabbit, cut into 8-10 pieces on the bone
                olive oil
                salt and pepper
4 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
4 big onions, peeled and thinly sliced
                4 garlic cloves, sliced
                2 cinnamon sticks
                3 fresh bay leaves
                4 cloves
                salt
                4 tbsp wine vinegar
                5 roma tomatoes, chopped
                300ml shiraz
                200ml port
                a little water
                chopped parsley to finish

                Method
In a heavy-based pan, brown the rabbit pieces all over in olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Set aside and tip out the oil.

In the same pan, cook the onions over a medium heat in the extra virgin olive oil until soft and golden brown, adding the garlic towards the end.

Add the cinnamon, bay, cloves, salt and vinegar. After a minute when the vinegar has reduced, add the rabbit, tomatoes, wine and port and a splash of water. Turn to very low heat, cover and cook very gently for about 2 hours or until very soft. Rest the meat and serve garnished with a little chopped parsley.

                Serves 4

                      Extended warranties

Rang the call centre to make a claim when our 2.5 yr old $1200.00 front loading washing machine door cracked around the hing. Went through the whole kerfuffle with receipts, dates, name, address, etc etc.

"What seems to be the problem sir?"

"well, the door has cracked and we have to manoeuvre it onto the latch to make the machine washing work"

"sorry sir but that's not covered under warranty"

WT :!: :!: "your kiddin me lady, what is covered under the extra cost extra peace of mind warranty?"

"electrical components and the motor. Have a good...."

"hang on, so your telling me we paid extra for a warranty and that covers nothing but the electronics!!!!!!!!???????????"

                      "yep"

So i go home with steam coming from more than just my ears, check the paperwork, and it says "..........including anything mechanical electrical, or electric components" Yes! i say to myself in a moment of small guy winning over the big corporation. I've got you suckers :!:

So i ring back, go through the whole same procedure, then "have you made a call regarding this matter b4 sir?" (ohshyte, they've kept a file)

I explain calmly that my warranty document says "....anything mechanical......" so when can i expect a fix?

"unfortunately the door is not mechanical, so is not covered under that warranty"

EXCUSE ME  PLEASE EXPLAIN "how can the door not be a mechanical component?"

"we suggest you call a repair person........" "hang on!! that's why i paid for the warranty, so you would organise the repairs"

"i really cant help you unfortunately, if you would like to take it further i suggest you ring consumer affairs"

You specifically worded "Mechanical Electrical" meaning a solenoid etc, I would also not class the door as mechanical electrical.

Mechanical yes, But is it worded in that way?

If so, give consumers a ring.

I got a big one. I want to post this on my forum, but it will probably reflect negatively on me.

I am the former Chairman of the Board of my club (reached term limits), and now Trail & Safety Director. We have some members who question why they have to pay $30.00 for an annual renewal when they can use the forum for free and just show up to our events for free as well.

This guy does not get it. I want to respond to his post, but I will sound like a douche.

Here is what i have to say.......(just not to his face)

                          Jeff,

You make it sound like this club is a profit venture. I will have Josh forward you the financials so you can see how razor thin we operate at some times. I have had reimbursements of over $100 outstanding for over a year. To answer your question, Yes, we looked into freebies for second year renewals, however the cost became $12-$15.00 Per person. We would of been unable to operate let alone hold events. We have a second year item in the works, but it probably won't be available in time to make a difference for you. We spend a lot for Mudfling II that included Tread Lightly materials, soda, some of the food, cost for the pavilion, and other small reimbursements from many contributing members. This is on top of the Tread Lightly membership, stickers, domain names, hosting the forum, window cards, tri-fold brochures, and several other small costs the add up to a whole lot of $$'s.

This year we have large costs associated with Mudfling III, WFTW, and costs associate with becoming a 501-3 (c) (not-for-profit in the US), however there are a lot of costs that can't be calculated in money. There is the hours donated for events from many people, time and involvement of the board members, and the 15+ hours a week I put in to make the larger events run smoothly. On top of that all the board members pay $60.00 per year and have their wives as members to keep us in the black.

This club is a lot more than "what's in it for me". We can't force you to stay, so do what you feel is right.

                          -Ben

                            Ben,
I've heard the same complaints at similar similar forums that have nominal membership fees. I like the compare it to going to the pub. Sure you can go along, sit in the corner, watch what is going on and not spend any money, but how much more enjoyable is it to be there with a group of friends, exchanging jokes and ideas and of course shouting a round or or two.

The missus had to leave work to pick the young bloke up from daycare as they rang and said he was sick. Some moron decided they were too important to leave their details so just drove off from the carpark space next to us at the daycare centre.
