Learn from your mistake. Please don't take that the wrong way. Similar thing happen to me when I bought my first air compressor a few years ago. Thought I was getting value for money, brand name etc, via ebay. Same issue with warranty as you. I ended up buying one from a reputable retail outlet, full warranty, walk in service etc. Worth the extra $$ (albeit paying double). I now will only buy small cost items from ebay, cause I just don't trust it and want to ensure I have the full fair trading laws to apply.

      BPC,

My advice would be not to spend any more money on the cheapy (or not so cheapy ) winch. Spend the extra dollars and get a good winch.
That said even Warn winches have their issues. Since you are in Victoria I would highly recommend you talk with Malcom Leslie from
      S.G Leslie & Sons
      19 Mologa Rd
      West Heidelberg Vic 3081
      ph (03) 94592859

Malcom rebuilds Warn winches including modifications to prevent common faults. I've have found him very helpful.
I bought my Warn second hand and rebuilt and modified it based an Malcom's advice.
      Cheers.

The poor state of the roads.

Was in QLD on the Warrego Hwy (goat track) on Friday and I would have to say, it is the worst road I have driven on in quite a while.
The Carnarvan Development road to Emerald is not much better in areas.

Given the state of the roads in QLD it is little wonder they are having an increase in the number of accidents.
The roads were never designed to take the current volume of traffic, especially the increase in trucks on the roads in some of those areas.

Well I manage to get myself a dud didnt I. Well it was working fine at the start but then we washed the car and it stopped working. We thought it was the control box as it was full of water so we sent that off under warranty. $30 postage each way it was for them to tell us it was fine. Well we decided to look in the motor, and it was full of water so we cleaned it out and dried it out and it started working again. Well about 2 weeks later it decided to bucket down on my way home from work and what do you know.... the stupid winch packed up again. So we decided to send it off to QLD for fixing or replacing. Cost me $70 postage. Then today I get the following email: "Hi Bianca,

The winch is working and the postage would be $84.89

However you have broken the insulation with one bolt probably by assembling it. That's not under warranty. We can repair it for $60 if you like.

Let us know please how would you like to pay.

          Best Regards"

No explaination as to why its filling up with water, they just want more money. And there wasnt even a bolt broken anyway. So we rang them to speak to the technician but they refused to put us thru as apparently he wasnt there but we could email him if we liked..... Arghhhhhh now I dont know what to do! I paid $415 for the winch to begin with, plus postage which came to just under $500 and now its costing me to send back and forth for something that is a warranty problem and not caused by me! Ahhhh what to do, what to do! :?
The latest on this is... I have been arguing with them constantly, they claim we voided the warranty. I asked for the proof of the frieght costs, they wouldnt supply me with a quote number, but gave me all the details of the shipping details and who thru so I did a quote and it came up $20 cheaper! I then told them I was going to organise my own frieght, they said it wasnt possible as they couldnt wait around all day for it to be picked up. After some more arguing I ended up booking the courier anyway. They then told me that I would have to pay their 4 hours pay for having to wait around for the winch to be picked up. I am so angry! Damn I wish they were in melbourne, I would have payed them a visit well over a week ago.....

My advice BPC - when you get the winch to work again, sell it in your local trading post (not on PP as after reading your posts I doubt anyone would buy it) then go out and get yourself a decent new one.

              I'd agree with that plan.
Time to cut your losses and chalk it all up to experience.
It simply may not be worth your while to chase them try to fix the problem, as it seems their minds are made up.
And if it's fixed, would you trust it again??
But, given the current situation, you should be putting out as much bad publicity as you possibly can.
You might not get justice, but at least get even

I personally would have difficulty "fixing" it enough to on-sell it, unless you let the buyer know exactly why you're selling it, and what they're getting.

My missus had a similar experience with Hellstra, where she changed her maiden name and lost her messaging. WTF!!
So it went from a simple billing change to a WTF!!

                  How !!

The first solution was to give her a new SIM, cause no one knew why. New system apparently but why can they not work out message bank. Did she want a new number - NOOO! Been with them for 10 years and they want to just change her number. Yeah real convenient.

She was on the 4 week wait list too cause they would only field calls while she was at work. Being a trainer she did not have 1 1/2 hours to wait for the que to wind down enough for her to be answered. She did log the call in the Hellstra shop where the changes were made.

She tried all the heirachy on the phone and they all said it shouldn't do that. No one knew why though.

After 4 weeks of waiting and logging calls Mr Someone (must only be one who knows how) got to her call and fixed it straight away.

Me - I thought it was funny cause it wasn't me.

She - knew that it was a thing that really ticked her off.

I had the same problem at the start of the year. I was changing from Optus to Telstra as I never had reception on my phone at home with optus. I was keeping the same number but got a new phone. It took about 2 weeks for my number to transfer over to my sim card, even though I was ringing Telstra every few hours questioning them about it and they kept telling me it will be within 4 hours. They are hopeless! And it doesnt help that everyone you speak to from Telstra over the phone isnt even in Australia!

There were heaps of crashes on the roads in Darwin this afternoon due to FOOLS not slowing down or changing their driving behaviour despite a pretty heavy downpour during 'peak hour'. I lost count of the cars stopped and damaged. One crash involved at least five cars, all smashed front to rear - following too close.

In fact, one IDIOT tried to go around a nearby roundabout at top speed and lost control fishtailing down our road before losing control and sliding out towards the curb. Luckily for us (and him), he slid out to the opposite side of the road thus saving my Prado and new Camper Trailer, which I had just parked at the front of our house.

I really don't care if IDIOTS want to kill themselves on the roads, but hate it when they endanger the lives or property of others because of their selfish stupidity.

I was driving down the road the other week (marmion ave for all Perthites) I had the cruise set to 80km which is the limit. This ute is then right up behind me so I look in the rear view and this guy is giving me lewd hand singles (you can guess which ones) Then he pulls over onto the grass central reservation and OVERTAKES me. Then pulls in front and slams his brakes on. I then have to stop after nearly rear ending him. He then gets out and starts threatening me
Before I could respond hes off wheel spinning away, my 'crime' apparently was simply not driving fast enough in the right hand lane ( even though I was actually just turning right cos I live there and I was doing the speed limit.)
