  • Re: Some days you just want to buy a gun

Yeah. Kids with spraypaint. Even with all the locked cabinets now at Bunnings and the like they still seem to get hold of it. We have a full time team of graffiti removalists working in our council and they have plenty of work to do. We're now trialling a system of criminal damage charges where the kids need to front up to court and answer to their crimes. We recently had a sting operation in coordination with WA police and went out in unmarked cars overnight to catch them at it and take video / photo evidence. Caught a lot of people of all ages doing it. It only remains to be seen how they'll be treated in the courts and what sorts of punishments they'll get.

We do have a phenomenon here where if you or I see people doing the wrong thing we don't want anything to do with it because we don't want to complicate our lives any more than necessary. Understandable, but the consequence is, amongst other things, that kids get away with graffiti scott free and without consequence.

If someone walks out of the dunny at your work without washing their hands do you say anything?
If someone throws rubbish out the car window at the lights do you say anything? Cigarette butts are a classic.
If you and your 10 mates see a thug beating up his girlfriend, do you intervene?

The consequence of not doing so means these things are allowed to continue. Yet, if you do act on these situations you run the risk of repercussions. You are ganged up on at work, the thug visits your 10 mates with 50 mates..... etc etc..... I suppose you have to choose your battles carefully. It's very frustrating though when you see people doing the wrong thing day after day and nothing happens to them. Is it right to break their fingers? Or is it right to let crime spread throughout the community unchecked?

Standing 6-7 deep in the checkout line for a few minutes then when you finally get to the front the checkout operator leaves and serves someone who wants ciggies straight away, even when they have only just arrived at the counter!!!! If they want death sticks they should have to line up inside like every one else.
When i said something the girl working just said that it is company policy to give them priority, she also let it slip that it was due to the $$$mark up they make that they put priority to the ciggie trade>
          Not really right me thinks!!!

Yeah - I'm with you on that one. I hate coming up to a roundabout and see someone just entering it with no indicator on - then I stop and they turn off at the first exit i.e. before me - cheers buddy - maybe it would have benefited ME to know where you're going; but having said that - if it's a small roundabout I should stop anyway because if they change their mind and I'm assuming they're turning left I've just pulled in front of them and it's their word against mine and guess who the insurers (if there are any) are going to side with... <RANT/>

This whole scenario used to p!ss me right off when I used to work at a supermarket during the highschool years. No matter who or how you would serve people, they would always have a go at you for not serving them first. Next time you get the sh!ts think about the checkout operator who has to put up with all the selfish clowns from both sides.

                      • Stolen Prado GXL alloy rim and BFG tyre

So pissed off........just got home to find out some low life stole the spare alloy off the back of my Prado GXL with a brand new (unused) BFG AT on it. They actually broke the tyre lock and unbolted it during the night. Drummoyne, NSW is not the suburb it used to be. Thank GOD we're leaving the suburb in 3 weeks. Another insurance claim..........does anyone know a ball park figure for replacement of these? I'm assuming the tyre lock isn't cheap either and will mean I need another key to open the new one?

                        ARGGGGGH!

                        • Re: Things that tick you off!

Couple of weeks ago my daughter and several of her friends decided to make "base" down the back of our block.
Unbeknownst to me they knocked over the sheet of mesh that separates us from the neighbours block which is unfenced.
The bloody feral deer got in and levelled my vegie patch. Ate all my cabbages and beetroots and trampled the onions etc.
This was the day after the cockatoos got onto the back paved area and chewed to bits the pots of parsley, uprooted the christmas bush and and a couple of other flowering plants in pots.
Yesterday, whilst visiting the nursery to buy more seedilngs, she pestered me to buy her a couple of flowering plants and a pot.
After potting them up and putting them on the front porch, within less than 2 hours the cockies had again launched a raid and chewed them to pieces as well as all the flowering heads on the closest grevilleas.
That night, I spotted the next door neighbour (who incidentally works for the NPWS) feeding a bloody feral deer on his front step
Now I generally love most animals, but next time I see a deer on the road or on someones front lawn, it's gunna be wearing a chrome grill as underpants and as for the cockies, they're lucky I don't own a slingshot. YET
