  • One day i was walking towards the car in a work car park to go and get some lunch. As I approached the car, a guy put what looked like a piece of paper under the wipers. I was about 50 metres away at that time and by the time I got to my car and removed the piece of paper, he was back in his car and just about pulled out of his car space. That was until I stopped him and pointed out that he didn't leave any details on the piece of paper. Should have seen his face change colour when I mentioned I have just called the police and I was writing his rego details down on his piece of blank paper (I didnt really call the cops).
He could not have been so apologetic, but I gave him a serve anyways. I got all his details and after quotes it ended up costing him over $500 to repair the damage to my 1/2 torn off front bumper. Looked pretty good after it was replaced - insurance free.
SSSHHHH be very very quiet were huntin wabbits.

    • It would seem statistically that your best bet is to park a long way from the shopping centre entrance next to a prado worth more than yours with a pillar on the other side.
Wherever you go..there you are, it's just more comfortable getting there in the Prado....

(Im not quite sure what they are though.........)

I had a guy try and skulk off after backing into me at a wedding. (Heaps of damage) He was from the other side of the family, and a heap of our mob saw it. It was the end of the night, and I ended up making an episode of it, as the alcohol took over.

Another time I was parked in street in my old Landcruiser ute, and a hotted up Falcon screamed in behind me, didnt notice my long tow hitch, and punched it through his bumper/spoiler & damaged the grill etc as he tried to reverse off it. I didnt even get out, and he got out and just walked into the shop as normal
          Cheers

I had brushbars (sliders) on an older cruiser and some numbnuts open his door doing more damage to his door of course. So then the smarty pants decided he would punch my drivers door mirror to get back, but they had additional structure support aswell. He ended up breaking the glass but did more damage to his hand. This was all happening while I was watching with 2 mates

Looks like this method is used widely, a mate of mine had his car run into. The fella who ran into it left a note saying "I'm leaving this note cos people are watching" but never left any rego or licence details.

Recently at a shopping centre our 2nd car was dinged and scratched by someone, appears to have tried to squeeze a trolley thru, but couldn't bother finding another way, so decides to damage the car.

Oh ha ha ha... she was an excellent drive. Untill the collision. The smash repairer had two attempts at fixing it before I went over his head. The first time he 'fixed' it, when u put the drivers window down it unlatched and opened the door... HOW BAD IS THAT?!

Anyways, I found out that the insurance company made him buy it back, didn't give it to him, and made him pay for all the transport / report costs... $33,000. Feel kinda sad for him, but he endangered my life and the lives of others on the road by doing VERY shonky repairs.

But that's a long story... hehe

                  Hmmmm... reinforced mirrors... Nice!

It works quite well. Otherwise at the local shops we tend to park way down the back where all the other cars that don't want carpark dents as they park across two bays.
Hi There Big Fella, yeah normally if I see yours parked over in the shop driven by your other half I park next to yours . At least if there is any black on the side of my white one I dont need your rego details Ill just walk over the back street LOL  . Cant believe how many times I park over in that car park and park at the bottom on the high side (so trolleys run the other way), no cars any where near me, heaps of other spots and some dic#head will be trying to park on top of me. Pisses me off.  Have managed one dent in my door from some deadsh#t. :x Steve (Dunna PL)

Not that it matters, but in QLD it is illegal to drive with the rear foglights on, unless there is fog. Interestingly, there is no QLD law governing the use of front foglights. (My source came from the local rag a month or more ago - it was written up by one of the QLD police hob-nobs).

For what its worth, the May 2007 Australian Road Rule 'update' (Amendment) package, now gazetted by the States and Territories includes a prohibition on the use of front fog lights in clear weather, supplementing the existing rear fog prohibition at Rule 217.

(February 2008 ARR update now also gazetted, also many changes)

The rule changes reflect in *your States driver handbook*, in QLD , it's "Your Keys To Driving In Queensland", ye shall soon find both the front and rear fog prohibition of use mentioned.

can't say that's not a bad thing. i used to use mine all the time but since i put the bar on the "fog" lights are more like spotties so i don't use them if there are other cars around.

shame, i'm still stuck with the less than useful headlights! (so they tick me off in case i get in trouble for straying from topic  )

                          Thanks for the update KeepLeft!

I understand the need for such a rule when the fog-lights causes the oncoming traffic to be blinded. Though, when the foggies are set correctly, they do a good job of aiding visibility for both the driver and on-coming traffic imho.

After all, that is what lights are all about.

I wonder if the problem is caused by a lack of regulation in the way the lights are installed or their brightness level. If so, then the law is going after the wrong people, though maybe it's too late to chase the manufacturers/installers.

FWIW, I was following Snaga during a recent day-time trip and asked him to check my fog-lights in his rear-view mirror. Admittedly, he wasn't oncoming traffic, but he did mention they were not at all blinding or distracting. I have them installed in the Sovereign Bullbar.

                          Cheers,
