Re: New TV show - Pat Callinan's 4x4 Adventures

Sorry to be a party pooper, but

I did watch it last night - how frustrating. Apparently theres only Nissan Patrols, T-Vans and Coopers(only ones that tell you about tyre pressure apparently) in this world that can do the Simpson. Just one big advert. Who knows next year Toyota may open there wallet and then they may be the best.

All the good fishing shows have gone the same way.

Long live Malcom Douglas - he was sponsored but you barely knew it.

I suppose so, in that episode he went to Birdsville and checked out this neat pie shop.
They have some pretty nice food there. I bought a 10th birthday cake from there for my daughter last year. Prearranged it before crossing the desert. Was great desert that night in the pub for about twenty five people in the end. Had a look on channel One HD guide and saw that series 3 episode 1 is repeated tomorrow here in Adelaide so I've set that up to tape as well.

Same issue with Master Chef. Just a pure advertising and a massive revenue maker. Unfortunatley Master Chef is total crap and completely staged (I would doubt that anything is left natural).

Pat has always been keen on Nissans. I watched a Ron Moon DVD a little while back where he takes a group around Lake Eyre. I think it was called something like Desert Extreme. That was far worse in my opinion in terms of advertising.

Yeah I wouldn't mind trying something different like their curried camel pie. I wonder what camel tastes like, something crossed between beef and... :?: Don't tell me it tastes like chicken!

SA are lucky to get a repeat. I just checked Melbourne's TV Guide, all we're getting tomorrow is 4WD TV and some fishing shows on good old Chan31 - the most overlooked and under rated channel.

I'm sorry guys, but as we are all entitled to our own opinions, I find Pat Callinan as boring as batsh#t. IMHO he has no personality of his own and the whole show is just a series of adds. I would prefer to watch any of the 4WD Action DVD's. At least Roothy is a character and you can get a laugh.
But as I said ... we all have our own opinions.

Hahah agreed! Roothy's awesome, the guy's hilarious and has the "whatever goes" attitude in his cooking segments. Like with this video:

LOL @ how he tips a bit of beer in the stew.

You mean Adelaide is lucky to get a repeat, out here in the sticks we get nothin' at all

As for the 4WD action dvd's, i think they are starting to get ridiculous (like the recent Hay river trip) it seems to me it is becoming a battle to find the worst and most wreckless place to take a 4WD in order to do the most damage possible to your gear. The write up in the Magazine regards the repairs needed to the shorty patrol after that trip are just over the top, you need sponsorship just to keep your rig on the road if you treat it like that. Ive only seen 1 episode of Pat Callinan and i didn't mind it.

                Cheers Andrew

That is a fair call. I mainly watch the show to see places that I would like to travel to but the advertsing is a little intense but you don't see those items being advertised on telly much do you. There are not that many shows relating to 4wding. I find it very difficult to watch 4WD TV. Simon is NOT a great presenter and he needs to learn to present without reading but after many years he has successfully failed. Roothy is an old one. Yes he is funny but in a strange way. I appreciate his knowledge of 4wding and vehcile mechanics but tends to be over the top. Pat is like a wimpy kid. I've seen some of the older 4wd Monthly DVDs with him and Roothy is definantly more knowledgable than Pat but I find it easier to relate to Pat as his style of off road travel is more like mine.

Curried camel pie tastes great but I thought it would have had more curry flavour. Had one in July. Was a bit hesitant but when in Rome.....

You know that is a strange one. I had dinner with Simon earlier this year and he is a totally different person in the flesh so to speak. I don't know why it comes across different on camera.
