Of course most people shorten it to macro but we get used to shortening to photomac in our photo jargon.
ops: Oops... I should have seen that... yes, I know Photomacrography all to well. Don't do a lot of it but also teach it at college briefly each year. More of an awareness thing for the students, not nearly as in-depth as you do it

I thought yeah, but have you seen the price of that stuff    It is absolutely fantastic though.
For all my product shots in the studio I pull out the old Bowens and Broncolor floor packs as they are between 1000ws and 3000ws heads. Used to exclusively use 1000ws and up when shooting film but for some reason my 500ws heads do most of my corporate stuff without to much trouble... albeit a little slow to recycle some times.
If I was to change my system without concern for budget it would either be ProFoto or Brons 8)

This is still a work in progress... I've got the first stage done, which is the on-board dual battery set up to which I'll connect a 1500w Pure Sine Inverter (eventually). I'm still working out the specs of my lights to try and estimate the power drain and ultimately how many dumps it should be good for.
The next stage is a 2nd deep cycle battery that can be portable for when I can't get the car near the set.

I've often thought of doing the advertising on the back but it freaks me out that it's just an invite for someone to pinch up to $15K of gear (& on one occassion $160K  ) out of there.
Most of the time it's not that much (approx. $8K) but I simply can't afford the time to go rounding up more bodies/lenses even when it is all covered. Does it ever worry you?

While we're on this thread...any photog forums you particularly like? I used to got to naturephotographers.net, passionforpixels.com a fair bit but since getting bogged down in the science world there's not much out there in terms of forums for that.

I guess DPreview, Fredmiranda are known to all - and the brand specifics: Nikonians, Pentaxusers etc.

Just for clarification...when I say I'm a photographer...it's a job part time, volunteer work part time (Royal Melbourne hospital and Austin Hospital), and Uni Student the rest of the time (last half of final year in B.Sci (photo).) I just like to clarify as some don't class it as a profession until it's full time & some call themselves a photog if they take a pic on their mobile once a month!

So what sort of photography are you all into? (If your website is visible, trust me - I've looked )

I lock one or three Pelican cases with a cut proof stainless wire to the tie down hooks in the back. That will slow the buggers down. Apart from that 60k of insurance cover on cam gear helps..

Be careful tell people how much your gear is worth, especially if they can ID you from the internet !!

Get your gear insured, AIPP have a pretty good deal going, as a student you get an even better rate. If you are not into the associations, and it is a bit cheaper, you can get fairly decent cover piggy backed onto your house contents provided you are not a making money from your work.

Depends on what gear you are carrying but you can build a safe box rear storage unit with a colour coded interior top, heaps of rear storage unit designs are available on this site. This should stop prowlers as it looks like there is nothing in the vehicle. The other trick was to leave a pro storage case open on top of the shelf with all your gear secure below. Be careful where you leave your car parked, I've have had more stuff nicked while shooting than from out of a car :x

Unfortunately photography for me has reduced to mostly a side business, other than remote/aerial stuff, I do a bit of motorsport and the occassional wedding. Old film dayz contacts in the print industry and a couple of stock image accounts provides me enough cash for some toys.

I'm pretty sure I ran into someone at the classic last November

Re: Prado = Photog Transport Vehicle

Yup, it's all insured - wouldn't dare go out otherwise. The pelican case idea sounds good for me at least while I still use the 3rd row seats occasionally.

FBP, my wife is the photographer, as per the signage, wedding and portrait and a bit of everything else. Clip on the web link below my signature.
Our gear is rarely in the car as when leigh is on location she carries all of the camera's and lenses.

Re: Prado = Photog Transport Vehicle

I have rear tyre signage as well... the thought did cross my mind and a colleague did mention to me that a photographer he knew had his car broken into 3 times in 6 months after he had FULL car signage done.
That's what I pay insurance for and as others have said... there's nothing in the car if I'm out and about because it's all with me on the job.

Me... Corporate and Commercial photography. Corporate portraits, catalogues, advertising.... you know. If you need it shot, well...

Although the Prado is taking me much further off the beaten track so I'm getting back into landscape photography as a personal pursuit so I don't lose the passion for something I've loved doing for more than 25 years.

I was trying to catch up to have a word or three but he looked like he was working really hard (plus talking to a drunk idiot is not that interesting to the none drunk  )

Why no D3 ?? The ball didn't drop until a couple of weeks later who it may have been ops:

Management appeared to be doing their best to prevent spectatoring with terrible competitor updates, shite inter stage travel routes and virtually no spare time between back to back stages  Lucky we had a local who knew all the back roads. I think CH 7 were going to do a show on it before xmas but I missed it :x

I'm in two minds whether to go back this year, but the slippery roads, the chance of someone smashing a rare/historical car and the inclusion of "modern classics" may make it more interesting ??

We are trying to orgainse a trip for the Kyogle/Tweed WRC leg ??

It is good to see atkinson was picked up by citroen, pity about subaru's fate though
