I know this is off topic but I thought it may be of interest to those with ABS and traction control fitted to their vehicles.
A friend of mine recently went from a very well set up 2002 TD Hilux dual cab to a Kia Sorrento  . He has a history of rather hard core off roading, so his choice of a Sorrento did not go unnoticed and plenty of mileage was made by those who like to take the pi$$ (me) .
Over the weekend he went out with a small group to the Pinjar power station north of Perth to try his vehicle on the near by S bend and four hills.
His first attempt at the S bend nearly ended in disaster when he got half way up and his vehicle lost traction meaning he’d have to reverse down to have another go. While reversing he put his foot on the brake only to find he had none. It seems that the ABS decided to over ride his actions and refused to allow the brakes to be applied so he had to steer looking over his shoulder taking in several sharp corners as the vehicle started to rocket down the sandy slope  .
Next stop was the four hills, he got to the top alright but then decided to drive back down the way he had come. It seems the ABS was again incapable of coping with the situation and refused to allow any braking as he went down. By the time he got to the bottom the vehicle was bouncing uncontrollably all over the place.
I must admit I don’t fully understand what was going on as my vehicle doesnt have ABS but it was enough for him to now be contemplating trading the Sorrento in on a Jeep. He dreams of a Prado, but he is financially struggling to keep his snout above water at the moment.
One positive to come out of it is it will probably provide me with plenty of opportunities to make some more mileage over his choice of vehicles in the near future  .
On the same trip another mate was driving his V8 100 series along one of the sand tracks when his daughter suddenly announced that a piece of wood was sticking up through the floor.
Seems a large branch had come through one of the rubber grommets on the floor right near her foot. It tore through the carpet and severed several wires in a wiring harness running under the carpet. The harness ran to the fuel tank but fortunately only fuel gauge that was affected. The pictures were a little reminiscent of the mining vehicle that had the branch through the seat that did the rounds recently. Scarey stuff.
