Quirky they were, sometimes things did not work out quite right but these guys obviously loved what they were doing and brought it home to many of us in far flung parts of Australia, the first of their kind in many ways. Will be sorely missed.

        I agree Mick:

        RIP Mike Leyland

        Sadly missed by us all.

I loved watching the Leyland Brothers.

Its probably what gave me the desire to get out and see this beautiful country of ours.

                    Re: Leyland Brothers

Well didn't we all grow up with the Leyland Brothers showing us the outback areas of Oz. I remember as a kid waiting for their next adventure it was always a big deal in our house.

I heard a comedy skit the other day taking off the Leyland Brothers it went something like this:

" Hey Mike, what's that over there?"
"Absolutely nothing as far as the eye can see Mal"
"Well we had better take a dozen photos of that then Mike, wouldn't want the folks back home to miss out on that."

                    RIP Mike.

                      Re: Leyland Brothers

                      Can't believe this... I'm fully devo'd!!

I used to work on Mike and Mal's vehicles when I worked at Regal Motors in Newcastle for 5 or so years.

Thought they were dead set legends back then and still do now!

RIP Mike and my thoughts go out to all of the family.

                        Re: Leyland Brothers

I've only been in Australia for the past two years, so didn't grow up with them. I have bought a few of their DVD's and it makes me want to pack the Prado and set off to discover all these places firsthand. Thanks to their programmes I know have quite a few places that I'm very keen on exploring!

                          Re: Leyland Brothers

Definately a big part of my childhood, meet the boys at Ayers Rock when we were very young.
Parents never had a TV but Dad did a deal with the neighbours to let us watch only two shows when they came on; The Leyland Brothers and In The Wild with Harry Butler.
Still remember jumping out of the Series 2a Landrover (Prados hadn't been invented yet) and chasing whatever Dad had seen through the scrub, normally before the truck had come to a stop...

those two shows have certainly shaped my life
