  • Fish oil & sand don't mix!!!!!!!!!!

Hi, got a bit of overspray underneath the Prado over Fraser last week and the sand has stuck to it like #$^% on a blanket. Anyone got any ideas on what to use to dissolve it.
I have tried Kero, Wax solvent, Degreaser. P.S Attached a few photos of the trip. One pulling out a stuck 200 series go the Praaads..........

A mate of mine diluted fish oil in diesel to make it a bit runnier for application. I don't know if it would help remove it though?

Do they have a product called Simple Green 'down there'? it's what we use to clean our engines and dirt off of rubber hoses before taking the vehicle in for warranty work. Dilute it 50/50 and hose down the undercarriage. Wait 15 minutes and hose off.

It says on the can to dilute with turps so maybe try that.

Trouble is it I think it has a drying agent in it so as said hi pressure water might be the go.

Great pics by the way. Love the one in with the dust flying.

Be careful with the degreaser. Had a similar prob with mine. Tried a solvent type degreser , I think it was an orange or pink colour I tried a small bit on the inside of a chassis rail. Worked a treat but the glossy black underbody paint turned a dull matt black. Water based alkaline stuff is not much better. Used a hot water gurni in the end. Not the perfect solution and took two weekends. Good Luck

So is there some treatment that someone heading into sandy/beach areas should treat their rig with to try and prevent corrosion?

                    Salt Assault?

                    Anything else?

I think that next time I will use a cheap engine oil, should hang in there for a month or so and will come off a lot easier.

WTF are you guys doin
Spend approx $300 lousy bucks at Rust Free or somewhere similar and never have to do anything except hose the sand off, and never have any problems with rust on any treated area.

Problem with permanent rust (paint) treatments is that after time, they can crack or peal, and allow salt in. I had this experience years ago with an 'endrust' treatment.
I now keep a 5ltr pump spray pack of Lanotech in the garage, and if going away for a aweek or so, treat the underside of both the Prado and the camper with it.

I've watched a rust treatment being done and I reckon that I did a more thorough job. Seemed like the guy was more concerned with getting the job done using the smallest amount possible and in the quikest time.

So is Lanotec used neat, diluted, etc? I note you use a 5L sprayer, is this just a garden pump pack sprayer? How does this go afterwards, does it form a crust with the sand or just wash off with a hard spray of water?

Sorry for all the questions, enquiring minds would like to know.
