Re: Fish oil & sand don't mix!!!!!!!!!!

There is no doubt that some rust treatments are better than others. That said , I , (and several mates on the south side of Brisbane) have over the last two decades used Rust Free without problems. In fact one of my previous vehicles had 4mm depth of treatment throughout the chassis rails. That was done by Rust Free at Thornside. Whether that old guy is still there I don't know, but others who have gone to Morooka have had similar excellent treatment.

These businesses are run and worked by the owner. You will see in other threads that I did not go to Rust Free for the beloved D4D but had it done by the dealer. That was a mistake. I found a closer and very good operator at Motor One at Wynnum. Same with everything from mechanics to dentists - some are better than others. :?

I have never experienced or seen rust treatment flaking off in a vehicle with a Rust Free treatment less than 10 yrs old. The mess that the home made measures make are horrendous. But you pays your money and make your choice.

I now keep a 5ltr pump spray pack of Lanotech in the garage, and if going away for a aweek or so, treat the underside of both the Prado and the camper with it.
So is Lanotec used neat, diluted, etc? I note you use a 5L sprayer, is this just a garden pump pack sprayer? How does this go afterwards, does it form a crust with the sand or just wash off with a hard spray of water?

Sorry for all the questions, enquiring minds would like to know.
I just spray it on neat..... there is a drying agent (so I am told) in the spray. I does stay a bit 'greasy' for a few days, and yes if you are doing a trip with beach driving included, it can get a bit crusty, but I find after the trip, I just visit 'car lovers' and put a high pressure 'rinse' under the Prado and everything comes up like new.
You can buy Lanotec in a 2ltr pump spray dispenser, but at present, I bought a 4ltr, so am dispensing into an old 'Windex' glass cleaner bottle, and spraying on.
This is not a guarantee...... but the concept was given to me by one of Australia's largest 4WD outback tourning & training companies,....and I have never had any problems.

PS: Old greyguy......... you would like the sticker on the back of my Prado.............

Went to ARB in Ballina the other day and asked if they sold Valvoline Tectyl Rust Preventative. They said they only buy it in bulk to rust proof cars. Charge $500 for the job. They were believing it was far superior to any other product on the market. I bought a 400g spray can of the stuff (Tectyl 506) from repco for about $18 and have begun doing sections of the underbody and tire wells. It dries waxy hard and the sand doesn't stick to it. Smells pretty bad but not as bad a fish oil. Found about the product in another thread here on dual batteies install. I don't really know much more than that but seems to be a good product.

Sorry folks, but just a question... Why are you not using Electronic Rust Prevention? Have been using it to protect Multi Million Refinaries/Pipelines and regular Landcruisers from the Middle East to Oz for Years.
For a couple of Hundred Dollars, ya dont have to worry, about sprays and oil and cleaning. Sand and salt just wash off. :?

Have been using a couplertec for sum time now. as do Rio/BHP/Santos etc etc
