  • Nice areas to live in WA

    Hi all,
Over this week I had to go to Perth for a job interview, and it's looking more than likely that I have it. So Lynne and I are looking to relocate to WA and just wondering which areas are the place to be with affordable rent, we will be looking around the city area as I will need to be around the airport for work.
So if you guys can give us a few ideas that will be greatly appreciated, and also it will make the WA chapter of PP that one car bigger.
    Thanks Adam

If near the airport I would suggest -- Redcliffe , Cloverdale , Belmont , High Wycombe , Forrestfield , Guildford , South Guildford all these areas approx 15 - 20 mins from city and 10 mins from air port .You would be looking around $300 -$380 / week rent . I have lived in this area for over 10 years and is ideal for jumping in the car and going bush east south or north and avoiding alot of suburbs .

    Hope this helps Tony

      Adam,

If you need to be near the airport for work you might want to consider the hills areas, which offer a more relaxed lifestyle and generally much more reasonable rent. Great place for kids to grow up if that's important. Places to try might be Lesmurdie, Kalamunda, Gooseberry Hill, Helena Valley, Boya, Darlington, Greenmount, Glen Forrest, parts of Swan View etc. I spent my first 20 years out there and had an absolute ball.

With the new roe highway, a lot of areas south of perth would also be accessible to the airport. Perth doesn't really do traffic so I wouldn't be too worried about being a little further away.

Good to have another to join the fold.

      Cheers

Thanks guys for the input we will be looking to move after the wet season from what I've heard the 4wdriving is pretty awesome up here in the wet. So I will be flying to and from Perth every 2nd week until then, so thanks again for the advice and look forward to meeting up with you guys over there.

          My 2 Bobs worth.

If you live in Perth you MUST live near enough to the beach to get the afternoon sea Breeze (Fremantle doctor).

We live in Scarborough. Pay $500/w for rent for 4 X 2 house. Expensive?? Too big for the 2 of us now the kids have left home but can walk to beach. I was working in Subiaco so that was a 15 min hassle free drive. Now work in the city (The office relocated) so that is a bit of a hassle but still easy compared with many cities.

Maybe you doing FIFO? If so, then you will find many people do this and live wherever they want, as they only have to make their way to the airport occasionally. Many people down here, over Northam, York etc live an hr or more from airport.

I know people who live in Busselton, and work in offshore, overseas or North West FIFO jobs. They say an extra 2 hrs drive and they are where they want to be. Same probably applies to people living on outskirts of Metro area.

            Hope it all goes good

We are currently renting in Osborne Park, which is ok but there's better suburbs to live in in our opinion. A cousin has a place in Ascot (nearish the airport) and that's a nice suburb, might be a bit pricey these days though. Looking to buy a place soon but the first home owners grant has pushed prices noticeably higher, we've been looking on and off for around 2 years now and we've seen this with our own eyes. It's not near the Airport but Greenwood is a good area if you're looking closer in to the city centre and more affordable. It's an area that strikes a good balance between distance from the city, affordable - ish, and houses not built too long ago. Some streets are really quite nice and leafy. Right near the Northern Train line. That's where we're looking.

Re: Nice areas to live in WA

I'm in Hillarys and FIFO every week only takes about 20-30 minutes to the airport (45 in peak hour). I think rent in the area might be high end but places like Greenwood, Duncraig, Carine, Padbury just inland are more affordable and near the freeway, train and arterial roads so getting anywhere around town is reasonably quick plus there are some pretty nice beaches within 5 minutes. My two bob worth.

Re: Nice areas to live in WA

We live about as far south in Perth as you could possibly get, Port Kennedy. We love it down here, stroll to the beach, shops, there's a lot of parks around, the train station isn't far away either.
We allow an hour to get to the airport, that usually gets us there with time to spare. A lot of families we know are FIFOers.
Rents down here for the average 4x2 is around $350 pw.

                      Good luck with everything
