While I have no problem paying something like that and I suspect a lot of members will not either, I do see a potential down side. It may be harder to attract new members as unless they know someone who is already a member and shows them what the content is like.

I have no problems supporting this site also.

I have noticed other sites that have a sort of "donations drive" to raise the necessary funds for hosting and the like when the time comes. Not sure if that option has been raised previously.

I assume that the content is still viewable for non-members. I do get a bit annoyed when I visit other forums and they have links to photos and you have to join up to view the photos. Wouldn't mind having to pay a fee to post but there are some who rarely post and the monthly fee might not be seen as value for money.

Absolutely would support, as i said in my castrol post it is obviously a cost to Aaron to run the site so whatever helps we should support.

I would support it & pay the fee, but would prefer to see how this advertising thing goes for a while first.

Not particularly keen on the idea at this time... surely there are some other better alternatives to keep the forum alive and kicking without losing its free spirit. I think it would be worthwhile to explore and trial all options before committing to something that may result in the user base and popularity of the forum declining.

Didn't say I was against it, nor did I ever suggest that I'd walk from the forum. Just said I wasn't keen on the idea at this time.

As is clearly evident, I've already invested way too much time to give up that easily. I think my commitment and interest in the forum over time fully demonstrates my fervent support for it and its members. Indeed, I attended the inaugural PP GTG to prove my interest and build personal friendships with those that I had, up until that point, only ever met online.

Just looking to negotiate the best deal for us all - but please don't question my loyalty to Pradopoint.

I vote yes as I would love to see this site keep on getting stronger and don't mind a membership as such, as long as there is not to much if any corporate advertising. There are enough members here who give an unbiased view on all products in regards to our 4wdrives. I just have one question after seeing and test driving the new 150 which is not for us a wouldn't buy one, instead we are looking at the LC200 and other members have stated that they will be looking at other 4wdrives, will we still be welcome on this site or PP trips as there is a wealth of information and ideas on this site.

                    Re: Pradopoint posting/membership poll ?

I've wondered about this already as it happens. Not that I've put a mountain of content on the forum like some legendary members, but if I did leave, was killed by terrorists, or gunned down by the pedestrian council.... all the pics I've posted would disappear. In my case, IInet gives me around 50megs of harddrive space on their servers which are net connected all the time, so all the pics stay available to the forum as long as I live and keep paying the IInet bills. Now, ok, If I get burned at the steak by the pedestrian council then no big deal  . But it's a very valid point that if some members in particular suddenly disappear then we've lost a lot of content just like that, which would be a bugger, and affect the long term usefulness of the forum. So if we can do something to keep that content available to the forum then we seriously need to consider it. 50cents is paltry! Nothing! Nada! Zip! Small Fry! Chicken feed! Etc etc.... So I'd be more than happy to pay the 50cents or more to support such a community.

However... When people are faced with having to pay, no matter how little, they can be put off. Even though you're only asking 50 cents a month, people may very well just not want to do it. Maybe the way to go initially is to get some numbers concerning people who will support a small fee and see what funds can be generated from that. The mod team might then be able to consider a small benefit for these people, such as a special pradopoint logo to display with avatars etc etc. That might draw a few extra's in down the track also. You'd just need to be careful not to create an "elite" group within the forum which, believe it or not, does happen in some forums. Unlikely here though I'd say.

But yeah. If this truly great forum needs my help then I'm up for it. The forum has helped me huge amounts since getting my 120. If the forum now needs my help then tell me where to sign..... and how much booze to bring.... 8)

                      Re: Pradopoint posting/membership poll ?

In agreeance with IP, fully.. especially if people think they are getting a little something extra for the dough by way of small avatar idea or something like that. Personally, I have no qualms about paying up, avatar or not..
Must admit to spending lots of time on PP and loving the advice and pix of others.
                      Where do I sign??

There must be some other ways of raising some money to augment the 50 cents per month also.

 I did read somewhere on a forum about dutch auctioning goods to help raise money. Anyone wanting to know about this form of fundraising - basically you need something to auction (donation, possibly from a sponsor), the bidding starts low, everyone bids only the difference between the last bid and what they want to pay, and this goes on until the time expires for bidding, a time only known to the auctioneer. Just a thought.... PM me for more details if anyone is interested in this. Fun really starts with mystery items and the hints you provide for them. It is fully do-able on line..

Anyway, I would hate to see PP go under, so anyone else got some ideas out there in PP Land???
You're here for a good time, not a long time... Love my Prado...

I would pay to post, however would not do it if expected.

I am on several forums and all are free even our own club forum. There is one solution FJ Cruiser Forums did. They have the free membership, but have yearly & life time memberships that give you an icon near your sign in, larger avitar, and a larger PM box.

If the forum needs money to opperate simply ask for donations or hold a fundraser to keep it free for everyone. I'm in for $20 either US or OZ (it's actually the same.) just tell me where to send it.

I agree on the 'sponsorship' style of contribution, I have been a Candlepower Forum contributor for some time (I like being able to see in the dark) and have for a few years held a contributor status which I think cost me US$10 a year. It was easy there just needed to click a link and they diverted you to the dreaded Paypal. The status image or avatar only displayed while your subscription was current, I was reminded when I logged in if it had expired, and so there may need to be some coding to implement but then I am not familiar with phpBB code so don't know how hard it would be or if this is already an option.

Something like the optional membership with avatar might work well...but why not just start by setting up a donation link, make it known that for the site to run, it would be appreciated if people donate X amount but don't make it compulsory.
