As with many things these days, cheap and nasty Chinese copies of the Safari Snorkel have hit the streets - see http://www.safarisnorkel.com/docs/bu...2009_12_22.pdf

It was only a matter of time wasn't it. Actually, I have seen some Chinese clones of some european electrical goods, and in some cases (multiple manufacturer's of the same item) the quality is actually better then the original. (not all cases obviously)

Whilst the mounting hardware and brackets may look the same, there are huge discrepancies in
the material quality. For example, hose clamps that have a stainless steel band are often
constructed with a plain steel screw. Brackets are often mild steel and then painted or even
worse, studs in the wrong grade of stainless steel or plated mild steel. Inserts in the snorkel body
are often made of aluminium or plated steel. The list goes on and unfortunately for the consumer,
the problems don’t appear for some time - but when they do, it will be too late. The corrosion will
most likely have fused components together and rust spread to vehicle panels.
All genuine Safari snorkel fasteners, clamps and brackets are 100% stainless steel, of the correct
grade for the job and the stud inserts formed inside the snorkel body are high quality brass for a
lifetime of component serviceability and zero corrosion.
Keep an eye out on the hardware side of things and probably best to source from their distributorsrather then from some online store unless you can inspect before buying.

I notice eBay has been flooded with a few other makes of snorkels recently ie Razorback, ironman etc.

I dont know but for what I paid for my inferior knock off, I can afford for it to break and replace it again and still not be out of pocket.

Where is their bulletin stating the facts about the disappearance and rumored quality issues with their superior quality Dtronic product? I hope mine doesnt fail now they have disappeared.

I picked up a Safari Snorkle from ARB for about $370 from memory. I also paid for fitting ($500 or $520 all up) BUT I could have got it for that price. Jason, if you are after one I can contact some one I know at ARB and see if they will do that price again. Let me know

Was only a matter of time. Due to the huge expense of replacing a diesel engine I will be making sure when I get myn (in the next couple of weeks) that it is genuine, might see if I can buy direct from factory to be on the safe side. Regards Steve

Got my orginal off fleabay and it was the real deal. I looked it over came in a safari box and instructions all matched and when in no problems. Just have to ask if it is genuine or not. You really have to think when it is way below market price...you get what you pay for and if you buy cheap and think you will replace agian and again it will cost you down time and could end up costing you more in the long run.

Bugger, sorry chaps I forgot all about this. I found a spare morning yesterday to finally install the snorkel ready for our Tassie trip and forgot to take the "before" shots
