St John Ambulance will do this for you... for a fee if any items need replacing. They normally replace for free any items used during a genuine emergency that they respond to.

The mantra for these types of items is simple... better to have one and never need it than to not have one and have your life depend on it!

    Wise advice Mav.

Re: First aid/Trauma Kits in ya Prado

When the wife and i were getting close to our kimberley trip i decided to buy a st john ambulance kit from bcf, best $110.00 i spent as our old kit had bugger all useable, never thought we would use it on ME of all people, i gashed my right leg shinbone area at tunnel creek lucky we had the kit and both of us 1st aid trained, just opened the kit flushed the wound out with saline, put a non stick dressing over it a big one as it was a 12 inch gash, i drove 2 1/2 hrs to derby hospital 3 stiches and dressing then rested a few days in derby, could have been worse had we not been 1st aid trained or had a decent kit, it pays to invest in quality 1st aid kit, know whats in it and how to use it.

I have a Parasol EMT outdoors kit in a hard case but I find that the pre-prepared kits don't always have what you want. So I added a full burns kit, a few extra space blankets, extra half dozen sets of gloves, a silicone pocket mask (for mouth to mouth), ice spray (for sprains and strains), a knife, notebook and pen and extra bandaids.

Added bonus is the last trip I went on (and the next one) we have a paramedic joining us, if you can pack one of them it helps :P

Just dragging this post back up as a good reminder for those doing the GTG but also anyone who has a kit in the vehicle. We went through our kit the other night that we have had in the Prado since we got it and had a look at everything and threw out the things that had expired but it did get us thinking is it good enough for when we go to the mainland for an extended trip.

We decided we needed an upgrade so took ourselves down to St Johns and had a look at what they had (had a sale on!) and what we already had. They were very helpful and didn't try and sell us the biggest kit they had there. They looked at what we already had and suggested a few things and we ended up with what we think is a good enough kit to get us out of most first aid situations.

Good reminder to everyone..... I have updated my kit only this week as well, after completing my annual Senior First Aid.

Found a new supplier in Melbourne.... very very good service and great kits.... (Active on a couple of other forums, but haven't seen him here)
