i was watching a current affair tonight when a segment came on about pedders 28 point safety check for $14 dollars, it showed a couple with kids going in for a check before holidays and walking out with a bill for $3000 worth of recommended repairs, this couple had the sense to go and get a 2nd opinion and the car was checked over buy the RACQ inspection station and found no faults at all making the car road worthy, ch9 then sent in another 7 cars to various pedders outlets for the same inspection and the same thing happened cars with bills ranging from $500 to $1500 or recommended repairs. the cars were then sent to the same RACQ for an inspection and all but 1 of the cars passed a roadworthy inspection. makes you wonder doesnt it, always worth getting a 2nd opinion if your in doubt. I also know this program isnt the most reputible of shows but its certainly gets it out there. cheers samo

Re: a current affair/ pedders suspension segment
today tonight also runs this type of story every 6 months or so and it always appears to be the major franchises that are guilty, but then again I would imagine it could happen anywhere. I guess it pays to befriend a mechanic!!Black 2003, TD, GXL Prado

Re: a current affair/ pedders suspension segment
Whenever you want advice about anything, it always pays to get it from someone who doesn't directly profit from the suggested outcomes as clearly they have a vested interest in getting your money. This is why you often need to be very careful when seeking financial advice - because those offering the advice often receive a financial incentive from the products or companies that they recommend.
If you want to have your car checked independently, then get it done by an independent mechanic or automobile club recommended mechanic - not a company chain that wants to directly benefit from your repeated custom.
The story had another very good lesson - don't sign anything that commits you to a financial debt without first seeking advice and seriously considering your position, and then reflecting on this for a couple of days![B][SIZE=4]ntp

Re: a current affair/ pedders suspension segment
Naturally! That's why the checks are so cheap, because they know 9/10 of the people who walk in there won't look for a second opinion.
Makes you wonder where honesty has gone these days though?
No wonder it's hard to find a good mechanic...<Rob> '12 Prado GX - https://www.pradopoint.com.au/forum/general/my-rig-build-up/32702-i-m-back-with-a-2012-150-gx-toorak-tractor

That is a bit rough to say the least. Some people just assume others are idiots without thinking how idiotic they're being themselves.
