  • Camp Stretchers, what do you use?

I'm in the market for a couple of new stretchers to replace our current ones and am wondering what others are using and recommend.
We are ultimately looking at cutting down our setup time for when we are doing a 1-2 night stopover, and the ones we use I find myself wasting about 20 minutes wrestling with the ba$%erds to get them setup properly.

The ones I have my eyes on are the cross-legged ones such as the OZTENT goanna.

Are these cross legged stretchers quick to setup? Anyone used the oztent goanna's specifically? Any drawbacks to the cross legged stretchers that I should be wary of?

Hi Switched, I currently use a similar stretcher. Different brand but I do have an Oz tent RV5 and a Foxwing awning and can assure you Oz Tent are good quality. I find the Stretchers quick to put up, personally I like a thin mattress on top. They fold up quite small too.

    Cheers

I use a large Colman X leg stretcher in an RV4, just fits, and has been good. It needs a cover between you and the canvas on cooler nights as you get a draught through the canvas. The other good thing is it gives you a lot more storage space under the stretcher compared to an airbed or mattress on the tent floor

I just had a look at the Oztent strtcher. It comes with a padded cover so you may not need a matress.

Re: Camp Stretchers, what do you use?

Thanks Gents, yes the Oztent ones are padded.. my current ones arent padded, and need assembly but I do use them in conjunction with a self imflating air matress. When I forget my self inflating (matress ) I wake with sore hips, so a padded one comes as a bonus.

Without heading into a camping store again(was just in BCF yesterday) can anyone tell me how long it takes to "assemble" or unfold one? Do you guys find these very comfortable to sleep on?

Re: Camp Stretchers, what do you use?

Unzip bag. flip out side rails and open, about one minute. When new the end rails take a little bit of force to put in place but as the canvas stretches it becomes easier. Trick is to put one end in and the get some leverage on the other end. All up no more than 3 or 4 minutes.

As for comfort I find that with my thin swag on top it is like a pillow top mattress. But maybe that’s all the xxxx I drink when camping.

            Cheers
