  • Folding boat rack

After about 5 weekends work i have finished the first stage of my CT boat rack 2 days before we went up north :!:

Ive just came back from Cape Range N.P near Exmouth and after mostly bitumen roads with a few rough tracks on the way its held up really well.

Most of the time building it was taken stuffing around with the gas struts and thier still not the right pressure nor the right postion.(thier upside down)But its nothing that cant be sorted. Its the first time Ived played with gas struts and its sooooo friggin hard to work out thier postion and what size you need.

Most of Its made from 50mm x 50mm x 2mm gal square tube and boy did the cold saw at work (so did the MIG) came in handy for the cuts .I made my own tie down points out of 10mm S/steel rod.I purchace these over centre catches(as seen in the first picture)from Ovesco.

Im going to make some extra storage in the gap between the CT cover and the bottom of the rack for things like a second spare and maybe the outboard motor.

Its also over 750kgs (now its 910kgs) so I need to fit some trailer brakes

          Re: Folding boat rack

When I set up the struts on my camper for the lift up top section I got the struts from Martins trailers. On their website under a section called Pamphlets there is a guide to working out the Newton size of the strut and its mountings. I needed over 160 kg of "lift" to raise the tent section to clear my motorbikes.
          Check out their site [url][http://www.trailerparts.net.au//url]
