Its not mounted in my car yet but it is so much better than the iPad 2. I bought the 64g wifi which was so good for traveling around Europe as it fitted nicely in my jacket pocket

I will be. I use it kayaking but not sure if the map download is full topo or just lines... Can you tell I haven't done any research yet? The Navionics ap is superb so hoping to get the same for on the ground. Now I have the 150 fitting it is but one of the jobs to do. Have an hiatus of 2 weeks though while I go on a business trip so my timing is very poor.

          G'day ntp,

Just got one. I was running the iPad 2 with the Hema Maps download, but I only had the WIFI version and therefore had to keep syncing with bluetooth to phone IOT get the app to run properly. Now I have the 64 gb mini with WIFI and 4G. Couldn't be happier. I haven't tried the GPS / mapping function yet though. Am waiting for my RAM mount from the States so I can attach it to the windscreen. I must say that you don't really lose too much screen size going from normal to the mini. Amazing really. Because it is looks and feels slimmer you don't initially clue on to the fact that it is the surround that is so much smaller, not the screen. It automatically sucked the apps I had on the iPad 2 no worries at all, and still has heaps of space. I recommend it highly.

PS Don't buy the non-3/4G. I made the mistake of thinking that I would mostly use it at home and therefore not need the sim card. Wrong! Even if you only use the sim once or twice a month, it pays for itself because it allows the device to use the 4G GPS function - even when not connected to a network.

I have an Ipad 2 WiFi version, and instead of getting a 3G or 4g version I suggest getting a mobile WiFi device for the following reasons. 1) Plans are much cheaper, I have 8GB for $39.95 per month with Telstra. 2)You can connect up to 5 devices at a time. This means phone connects saving phone data plan when travelling, but more importantly kids can connect their devices whilst we are travelling. Overall the mobile WiFi device is much more practical, particularly if you travel within Australia frequently, take it anywhere......

I had mine velcro attached in the rear of my Prado hooked up to the 12v from my second battery.....

Sorry. Retract Kogan mobile as alternative option as a carrier.

Hey Jasen. Don't go changing anything just yet.....Just retracted my post as I must have also 'Jinxed' myself. Just lost data with Kogan. Not much luck with getting hold of support, well I guess it is easter Sunday however have been surfing around the net especially whirlpool which is a great source like this one for information. Seems like Kogan have changed their 'fare use policy' so you can't use any more than 400mb per day, plus others have had issues. So you might just want to hold off for a little while b4 you jump in and check the fine print.
There are other Telestra resellers such as Aldi, Boost and I'm pretty sure these one other. Have a look at this http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1973797#

Then seach the 'reseller' you are thinking of going with.......you'll soon hear the pros and cons from all the noisy wheels. Hope this helps.

Will re post Tuesday hopefully with some good news

I have an iPad3 64g 3/4G running Memory Map and its been faultless to date. I went with the 3/4G version as it has an in built real GPS chip set that the WiFi version does not have. This just means that I don't have to have another piece of kit to enable mapping. It would also allow me to buy a SIM card to use data should I wish to, although I never have as I just set my iPhone up as a WiFi Hot-Spot and then connect the iPad to it as and when I require data. You can use the 16g version for running Memory Map, but with the Apple operating system installed and Memory Map your left with only about 3g for music and videos etc. I have it mounted in the truck using a RAM mount TAB-TITE and also have the iPad inside an Otterbox Defender case that does fit securely in the RAM mount TAB-TITE holder.

Nice. Just tried mine out and no problems at all. The mini is a great size, and I don't need the sim - just the 4g to allow GPS function. All up, the iPad mini, RAM mount and holding device together with the hema download cost about the same as the stand alone GPS! Gold.

I trolled through whirlpool a while ago to see if Telstra was resold by anyone, it must be a recent thing.
Now I know I would really like to get back on their network.

                          I think 400mb's a day sounds reasonable.
                          l

Sorry forgot to back to this. Keeping it short as it probably is bordering on 'hijacking'. Couldn't get hold of anyone from Kogan service centre over Easter but I doubt you would get much better service from any other network provider/seller. What had happened was i received an SMS on the Wednesday b4 Easter saying I had used up my limit, which actually should have just rolled over to another 6gb for the final 30 days of my plan. Rang Kogan Tuesday morning, data not working so was using wifi data from home, from my mobile they said they would call me be on the landline so they could talk me through changing some settings on my phone. While they were calling me back I turned off the wifi setting and started to notice emails coming through ie data working? Coincidence?
Please note had tried resetting phone, wifi settings& turning phone off then with no luck prior to calling Kogan for help with no success.

Any all been working fine so ill just have to sit tight and see how it goes for the next 25odd days to decide if I have to renew? Had change the wife's phone over about only a month ago and she hasn't had any problems?

Happy to discuss the or other options further however should do so in a new thread.

                            Hi Stephen,

Do you have any photos you could post of the iPad mounted in your Prado? I'm thinking to do the same.
