  • Dumb and dumber

You and your mate hire a Hertz Hilux 4wd and head out into the bush near Laverton (WA) to do a spot of detetecting with brand new Minelab GPX5000s. neither of you do what every other sane prospector would do prior to going out - you prepare.
You start driving around the boundaries of a big gold mine like an absolute lunatic. You stake one tyre, change it for the spare before you continue on and then stake and shred that tyre completely. You turn up a dead end track and then bog the vehicle down to the chassis.

You then leave your car, your food, engel, supplies, etc and set out to detect. But you get disorientated, you ditch the detectors, the camel back, the GPS. You argue and your mate takes off and goes in another direction. You stagger around the bush for nearly 2 days, sleeping out in the bush before finding a disused shearing shed. You climb a tree for a better look and fall out of the tree. After 20 odd kilometres, you stagger into the minesite that was only 3 kilometres from where you bogged your car. Help comes and separately you and your mate are found and taken to Laverton to be checked out at the hospital. You almost die from de-hydration and exposure.

Next day, your mate, another fella and your pregnant girlfriend take off to try and find the abandoned rented Hilux. You drive around for hours in the hot sun. All the tracks look the same.

Total cost of this outing: plane, helicopter, dozen police and 6 cars, medical support from hospital, rented Hilux, 2 dead tyres, fridge full of food gone off in the sun, 2 x $6,000 detectors, GPS and various other lost equipment.

I see these type of tossers out in the bush here in Victoria all the time - it's not limited to the "troppo" areas.

They think that once they in the bush they can drug up, shoot off, hoon around, do whatever they want - until they get into trouble.

I think it's a crime that decent people have to spend time away from their families to go out and look after these morons.
        Cheers, Wayne

About 3 months ago I was on the murray river and a bunch of rednecks came about 200m from our campsite to launch their boats. It was wet and absolutely nobody was around the visible area as the tracks were a bit muddy. I don't mind people doing this as it's public land and we all share it. The problem was that they had extremely loud music on - it's worse than camping next to someone with a generator on 24/7. What made it worse was that they were drunk and were smashing bottles on trees, scattering glass everywhere. So I was keen on getting their regos so I could report them, but then decided not to as they were all armed with rifles and shotguns. They were firing off a few rounds (I'm assuming into the sky) from their boats. I reckon it was just down right dangerous and took cover behind the car. We later packed up and moved to another camp site about 20minutes away, where another group of people had actually seen these people and alerted the local police. Inconsiderate morons, I hope the police get 'em and locked 'em up for a long time.

Its a wonder how some people can be so stupid (Bushbasher's story) and inconsiderate of others (William's story)...
A shame when what would be a good camping trip gets spoiled byt these types of people!!!

Not releated to Bush Bashers but more like Williams story. Probably 15 years back my wife and I did a trip up through NT. We were staying at Katherin Gorge and there was lost of space so we picked a spot away from the other vehicles. Went for a walk up to the top of the gorge and returned about two hours later to find this crappy Combi van parked about five meters from our spot. There was plenty of room for this to f$^%#%^ elsewhere. They then sat out the front of their tent, even closer to our tent than their car and played a guitar and sang until late and then proceeded to get rather passionate and noisy in their tent. Didn't think much of that and wasn't prepare to through my keys in the bowl which is what I thought they were after.

                    Re: Dumb and dumber

Its an unfortunate fact of life that some people are just a complete waste of perfectly good oxygen, its unfortunate that even out in the bush you still find these tossers.

sounds like there might be a couple of cheap detectors to be had out that way if you are keen on a bit of bushwalking

They were only trying to share the love.

After all, they were driving a combi. You sure it wasn't like 30 years ago?

DUMB - A friend purchased a new wrangler
Dumber - His mate ( me ) offered to help him remove the hard top so the soft top can be removed from the back as they take up to much cargo area .
Got the roof off out on the front drive , placed the roof on the front lawn , remved the soft top , placed that in my garage ( was worried it may get stolen ) Went to the bottle shop , came back and as we pulled into my street the hard top was on a back of some ones trailer heading out of our street . Dumber forgot there was a council clean up that weekend the usual red necks were out and about taking what was thrown out .
