  • Jervois to Mount Dare Simpson Crossing

    Hey everyone,

I'm driving Brisbane to Perth in approx 1 month, was planning on a Simpson Crossing from Birdsville to Mount Dare, but as many of you prolly know, Birdsville is flooded out, 6.7m the pub pros told me today. Hopefully it'll be down and accessible in a month from now.

Only way in and out of the Simpson at the moment is Dalhousie and Hay River track. I know plenty of folks have done this trip from Mount Dare to Jervois, French Line to Poeppel Corner, then north up the Hay River track, but have not heard any stories of anyone doing it the other way from Jervois to Mount Dare ??

This trip is around 1000km+ of tough driving between petrol stations, and I'm wondering if anyone has accurate fuel consumption data for a 4l V6 auto 120 for this trip ? ...lotsa jerry cans needed I reckon !

I'd normally be more than happy doing Birdsville to Dalhousie by myself, plenty of people around on the French line if the car goes bust, but doing Hay River + French line is a big job, and not many people are usually on the Hay River track, although maybe more now you can't get out through Birdsville ??

...anyone know any public access tracks which run north from Birdsville, which can get you far enough up you could cut across the Madigan route to the Hay River, and save yourself that big drive from Jervois down south of Madigan ?? ...2 private tracks west of Birdsville on Hema maps, but these have gotta be flooded too right now ?

...any other Prado Pointers planning on a Simpson adventure in a months time, would be much happier tackling Hay River with another vehicle ???

    Damn the rain !
