For those coming on the Friday, I plan to camp at Yellow Gums campsite in Big Desert. To get here you need to turn South off the Mallee Highway approx 4kms west of Murrayville onto No.6 South Bore Rd, it is then about 20k's to the campsite. I haven't been to this spot before as the 2 times we were supposed to camp here we got washed out and couldn't get in, so hope that is not an omen. Looks like a few good tracks in the area, one called Big Dune track seems like it could be worth a look. If we can get to camp and set up as early as practical we can hit the tracks and see what we find for the afternoon. I have been told that there are a few dunes out this way that you can not get to the top of, which sounds like a challenge to me Those who haven't already let me know whether they are Friday or Saturday starters, could you let me know. We can work out where to meet after that, Pinaroo? Murrayville (for Hibbo) or at the campsite?

    Cheers Andrew

      AJ,

Sorry for the lat enotice, wrok last week has been very busy. As much as I would like to attend, it appears that I will not be able to. I am sure yuo will all have a cracking time, as it was a blast last time. I hope this allows a spot to be opened up for someone else.

Something to do with cattle by any chance Dave

AJ - I have to change my status to very-tentative as we have had an unexpected win at soccer and have progressed through to August finals series. I may attend on my own, just with the swag. But I would rather you offer the spot up if someone else is a confirmed and wants to take it.

Too bad hey. I guess without me there to deliberately pack the sand tracks down, no one will get up the top of those dunes

          No problems guy, list updated.

Ian we might end up calling the whole trip off if you can't pack the dunes for us, It would be terrible to be stranded out in the bush stuck between 2 dunes with no way out.

          Cheers Andrew

Yes, I strongly suggest you do. Hopefully another 'little engine that could' (aka 1KZ) attends the trip to help you guys out!

Dave will be off playing with his meat, Ian with his balls..... there is a severe lack of dedication and priorities here!

                The truth is:
Dave is scared the d4d with chip is going to be faster than his pewtrol guzzler; and
Ian is concerned some d4d's will get up the hills WITH campers while his little engine that could is still compacting sand after we get up.

(Yes thats jealousy Rob and Andrew)

                    Rob,

Not scared at all..... Oh, I do note that you have not taken up the offeer to meet up to show off this supposed increase in power.... Yes cattle have been keeping me slightly busy indeed.
I will be travelling to Charlton(country Vic) on the monday for work for a few days, and should spend some time with the family before they head off for 5 weeks.

Everything fitted up!!! Everything could be a lot. It would be good to have a 150 along.

It is getting a bit awkward keeping spots open for the maybe's, given others out there might want to come as well. Let me know if you are a definite and I will add you to the list. Another new face would be good as well.

                      Cheers Andrew

I wouldn't keep spots Andrew. For me it will be a decision that week. If a spot is free at the time all good...

We were up in the Mallee on the weekend, got a bit of a taste for some 4WD Action.
Ducked over to Tutye (Vic.) to inspect the Nephew's crops. Then onto the Pink Lakes, some very keen campers set up on the shore of a few of the lakes, too bloody windy. Then shot across the grub track to Sunset tank and onto the Sunset track to the back of Emu Ridge to catch up with my sister.
A few sandy rises and rutted corners but nothing challenging for the Prado.
August 25th I plan to stay in Pinnaroo on the Thursday night with my Mum, then head into the Big Desert to meet up with Andrew and others for some more challenging off roading.
Look forward to giving the Prado a work out.
                          Cheers Troy

We are looking like leaving after work Friday night, hope tomget away by about 6.00 pm so can either try for your campsite or just find our own overnighter and meet up Saturday morning at your pre arranged location.

Currently undecided if we will bring the camper or just go with the rooftop, I suppose it depends on how many anchors you guys want to tug up the dunes!

No worries Gunnell. On the Border Track there are 2 big dunes that may cause us some issues with the CT, but there is a bypass so we wont be winching everyone up the hills just for the sake of it!

What do you drive Gunnell, 90,120,150, petrol, diesel, manual, auto? Its important info, I desperately need to know this stuff

I will send out my satphone number to all so you can call me on the night to let us know whether to keep the fire stoked up for you or not.

Sound like a good weekend Troy. I iamgine the crops are looking good down that way, nothing to challenging in any of the tracks in Sunset (unless you get 2 inches of rain and are towing a trailer) but a good spot for some easy offroading though. The Pink Lakes is windy at the best of times, and bloody cold in winter.

The pic isnt me, but we followed along after my mate, almost impossible to stay on top of the track, but nobody got stuck, not sure how though. It was on Honeymoon track a few years ago in Sunset.

                              Cheers Andrew

                                Hey Andrew,

I have a grey 120 petrol auto with a few mods to help it along.

                                Should be a good weekend.

I'll also pm you my sat phone number and hf selcall number if required before the event.

                                Cheers,

                                Peter.
