Hi guys,
Nice report and pics. Heading up to big desert and Border track around 10th Oct.
Any ideas for a good base camp in the area, hopefully be there about 4-5 days. ??
Any must do's?

Hi Darren, Yellow gums where we camped on the first night is certainly a great spot and central, Red gums campsite which we passed through also looked like a good spot a bit closer to the Border. We didn't get to see as much of Big Desert as I would have liked but I reckon you will find plenty of good tracks in the area. Milmed rock Track is supposed to be good although I have not done it yet.

I have just returned from out 4WD club meeting and our guest speaker was Jill Nickolls, one of the authors of the Mallee Tracks book, I just bought another copy of the book as I have almost worn out the first one, its a great source of info on the area and worth a read I reckon. The book has history and maps and suggested tours, places of interest that you would otherwise drive straight past without even knowing about them.

Lots to see in Sunset NP, around the edges anyway the middle of the park is remote mallee scrub, easy driving for the most part unless it gets really wet, If you get anywhere near O'sullivans lodge in Wyperfield it would be worth dropping in for a chat and asking for a look around, this place is unbelievable considering where it is, in the middle of nowhere, you could even spend a night here if you want a bit of luxury in the bush, I for one need to organise a weekend around this area.

Of course the Border Track is a must do!

I will be in QLD when you are in the area, otherwise it would have been good to catch up for a chat and a drive.

Thanks for the heads up on some stopping points. Just bought the Mallee Tracks book, yet to read, but does look good.
Hopefully with around 4 nights stop, we should be able to have a nice loom around a few of the tracks.
