  • Mt Mee / Glasshouse Track Status

    Hi SEQLD's,

Have got plans to do some meandering on Saturday, thought it worth checking if anyone's been in and around the Glasshouse Mountains / Mt Mee in the last few weeks and can verify first hand what the conditions are like?

I've heard a few roumers about tracks being closed, some others that they are open and have been graded so much that they are almost 2wd material, nothing too recently though.

    Ta

    Hi Matt,

You can enter from Chambers Rd at the southern/east part of the park but you can't go south on Peggs Rd only north. (There was a substantial gate there last time I went through, after the Neurum Creek camping weekend)
The tracks have been graded to a high standard where it would be perfectly suitable for a 2wd car to use.
I didn't get off Lovedays rd that time so can't comment on any of the other usual track.
    Cheers, Leon

I was up at Mt. Mee a couple of weeks ago, A Break was still closed but the western escarpment was reopened overlooking Somerset Dam. It was a nice drive the roads were in good condition 2wd stuff but I stuck to the main tracks, if you ventured off the main tracks I'm sure you could find something interesting. Let us know how you go McBain it'd be good to get a day run together. I'm busy this weekend but am keen to organise another weekend.

        Thanks Gents.

so A Break is closed, how about Jacky Creak road?

Snaga, which one is Chambers Road? in all the times I've been up there i don't think I've looked at a street name other than to head out of dayboro on Lacey's Creek road until you see turn up the mountain!

Rain damage closures - Parts of D'Aguilar National Park (including Mount Mee section) closed

This alert applies to the following parks:

          D'Aguilar National Park

Due to landslides, track damage and dangerous conditions caused by the January rain event, part of D'Aguilar National Park (including the Mount Mee section) are closed temporarily for safety reasons.

The following areas within the park are closed:

          All backcountry campgrounds in the southern section apart from Dundas Road, Lightline Road and Scrub Road;
          The Audax loop;
Parts of Lawnton Road and England Creek Road (fire trails) and
          Red Cedar day-use area.

The main forest drive accesses including Lovedays Road, L Traverse, Peggs Road, Chambers Road and Neurum Creek Road in the Mount Mee section of the park have reopened to 4WDs, along with Neurum Creek and Archer campgrounds, the Somerset Trail, the Piccabean walk and the Falls Lookout and Lophostemon walking tracks. The western escarpment section of the Park has been reopened for motorised use, which includes the escarpment forest drive to the Somerset Lookout and associated back country fire breaks in that area. In the interest of public safety, the remainder of the Mount Mee section will remain closed until further works and repairs can be carried out under natural disaster repair and recovery arrangements.

Vehicle access to the southern section of the park is closed. Permit holders (ie. aparists) should contact local staff for further information.

Works are currently underway across D'Aguilar National Park to allow public access back into rain affected areas. These areas will reopen once works are complete and the areas are safe.

Please go online or call 13 74 68 before heading to D'Aguilar National Park to check conditions.

The safety of visitors and the conservation of D'Aguilar National Park are of concern to the Department of Environment and Resource Management during these conditions.

            Hi Matt,

It's on the middle right side of this map...
            http://www.derm.qld.gov.au/parks/dag...-trail-map.pdf

            It's off Mt Brisbane Rd.

If you leave the side street of the bakery and turn left, then turn right at the pub onto McKenzie St, that turns into Laceys Creek Rd... rather than follow Laceys Creek Rd around to the left like you would to enter by the southern tracks veer right onto Mount Pleasant Rd then after a little while veer left onto Mount Brisbane Rd. (It feels like you're staying on the same rd the whole time... just the name keeps changing.)
Google Maps says 13 km from the bakery to where you would air down.
            Cheers, Leon

Did ya make it to Mt Mee on the weekend?

We came back through there on Sunday and A Brake and Hanger Brake are still both closed.
A couple of nice track on the north/west side though.
                Cheers, Leon

Hey Leon. Missed your call on the weekend and have been too busy at work (read "slack") to give you a buzz back yet!

We went for a little cruise. I had wifey & kids and mate had wifey.. neither of which were overly keen on anything too bumpy so we did a small trip through Glasshouse - entering in above Caboolture show grounds and largely following the Dirty weekends trip along the power lines around the Glasshouse lookout.

Was pretty rutted in some spots, not as bad as when you and I were there but when we came down to the intersection that you can turn right and go through the three deep crossings prior to the Mt Beerwah hiking spot and hit the bitumen, or turn left and go back through the wet section which was so rutted out we had to back out. i think it would have been hard to get through there in a bulldozer, I can only assume it's still the fallout from the floods rain.

Headed back down to a park on the outskirts of Beerwah and set up camp with the awnings and had a BBQ.

Good day out actually! no picks unfortunately!

                    Leon,

I thought it was you leaving as I arrived in my brothers new toy, 5 ton of 4x4 expedition camper, for its maiden shakedown run.

                      Hi Lee

Is that the 4BY truck with the yellow back, we did comment on it as we drove past, don't forget the PradoPoint favourite UHF channel is 16. I have a friend that builds similar backs here in the Redlands and does a fantastic job if anybody is interested.

See ya on the tracks, Richo.

                          Hi Richo,

Yes that was the truck, he had it built by a company at Yandina.
It is the first one they have done with a new parabolic spring set so it was a short trial to see how it rode and handled.
It was a touch tight shall we say at times but generally handled quite well.

My brothers plan is to do some more touring around Aus before heading off overseas. If all goes to plan possibly he will be in South America this time next year
