Thinking of doing a day trip to blow the cobwebs out of the centre diff lock. I have googled and there are apparently a few tracks around Moonta and down south to Balgowan but really not much detail as where they really are. Anyone driven around there and can recommend areas to explore?

Hi amts, we have had a few holidays down the Moonta area and not much in the way of 4wdriving. infact I cant even think of any tracks around the town at all, but then again i never checked google before we left. It is a great place for crabbing and squiding though off the jetty. There is a track near balgowan but the day we looked at doing it it was 40 degrees and with the kid in tow we decided against it incase we got stuck. from memory the track winds through the sanddunes with a few beach sections.2004 V6 GXL, ARB Bar, Cargo Barrier, TJM XGS Gold 2 inch lift,Oricom UHF, AMTS Spotties, Dual Battery, Waeco CFX 50, ABR battery Monitors, Iantz GPS

Good detective work AMTS. That's about as far as I got looking into this previously. As you know now, you start near Cape Elizabeth and work your way down. You can get as far as a little north of hardwicke. It turns to rock after this. Take the maxtrax as some of the beaches I've been on down there can be REAL soft. Just south of pt vic you can have fun in the dunes, and also in the dunes directly east of minlaton. Beware you will get pin striping through here.
I am keen on a day trip if others are. It might just accidentally be on the day AMTS is thereDiesel Prado with various things...

Andrew it might look a little dodgy to be on a family day and just 'happen' to stumble across one PP'er after another!
Then again you could tell the wife they are just back-up vehicles in case you get stuck.
Have fun mate

I did a bit of a drive with the family last winter from somewhere near Moonta to Port Victoria. I can't really remember where we got onto the track as we didn't really plan to do any 4x4 tracks but we just happened to stumble across it and decided to see where it takes us.
It wasn't the most challenging of tracks but there probably would have been other tracks further into the dunes that may have been a bit more interesting but we were on our own with only basic recovery gear so didn't want to get too adventurous but it was definately a great drive and I would recomend it.Justin
