Off to Mathinna next Saturday to have a look at the Mountain Stages Rally. The boys are right into rally cars at the moment so going to watch a couple of stages and have lunch at Evercreech.

Spent a lot of time camping at Griffin Park when younger. Plenty of camping space by the river and lots of tracks to explore.

Ok I will have a look at Griffin Park at Mathinna this coming Saturday to see what is there now and try and set a date after that but before Christmas. The next couple of weekends would have been out anyway with the AFL Grand Final (couldn't give two hoots about it really) and then the big one, Bathurst (will not be moving for two whole days).

Further to the bunkers in the Central Highlands I have soucred a couple of GPS points if anyone is trying to find it.
          - Drive around Pine Teir Lagoon- S42 04.138 E146 28.645
          - Little river crossing- S41 59.311 E146 24.329
The next two just don't seem to line up when using Google Earth
          -Pine River turn right- S41 58.244 E146 26.832
          - Bomb shelter building- S41 59.727 E146 28.636

Good to see you guys planning another jaunt, good work!
I'll try and join if you end up doing a day trip, got a new 5 week old, so getting the mrs camping could be a challenge.

Went to Griffin park camping about 5 years ago, brilliant spot.

Hey BenTas congratulations on the new addition to the family.

So it sounds like a day trip to the area around Mathinna needs to be planned. So what would be a good meeting time for everyone? Even if we made the meeting point at Fingal. From Launceston it is about a 1 hour drive. Not knowing where everyone is coming from, it would be good to make a time that suits everyone and also if anyone wants to camp the night they can do that as well.

Ok so the following dates suit me at this stage so let us see who else they might suit so a plan can be put together.

                  October- 1 or 2
                  October- 15
                  October- 23
                  November - long weekend ????
                  November- 20

After these dates I have been told we are fully booked already.
I will hopefully have a quick look at Griffin Park tomorrow for those that might want to make a full weekend of it.

[QUOTE=VKPrado;305851]As always count me in as well. In the north here and always looking for something to take the family out for the day.

One idea I have been thinking about for a while now and trying to find some more information is about a Cold War bunker that was built in the Central Highlands. The attached link is part of the puzzle and have been given a couple of GPS co-ordinants that help a bit.
                    G'day VKP,
could not get your link to work but I think this might be the same one http://www.dannyandhelen.com/2011/04...highlands.html

Looks like a really good trip. We will be down there around March next year (albeit in a patrol) and will seriously look at doing that trip. If you can't get enough PPr's to go in your time frame keep in touch as it looks like a definite goer to me.

                    regards
                    Geoff

will perhaps withdraw my comment/offer seems like you have more than enough starters. Amazing what a computer restart will do!!!!

the difference between what I originally read and the restart is a bit scary. Think I need a new pc.

Still plan to do the trip when we are down there next year. Look forward to a trip report, if you do one.

Was at Mathinna on Saturday watching the rally cars and went out to Griffin Park to have a look. It has been damaged by the floods in the camping area but still plenty of spots to camp if interested.
The area has been logged so all the tracks are clear and new ones put in and since there are not many trees it is easy to see the tracks in the distance.
