  • Anne Beadell Highway

    Myself and a group of friends are in the planning stages of a trip along the Anne Beadell Highway from Cooper Pedy
    to Laverton in June/July next year.
    A search of the Forum revealed that voyager4x4 did some of the Highway in July 2011 but did he ever return?
    His last post was just before he left!

    Anyway I am looking for current information from someone that has completed the whole Highway.
    We have had some details from a member of VKS 737. He was on the Highway in July this year.
    He was on the HF radio whilst we we camped at Eyer Creek in the Simpson.
    His best suggestion was to take extra springs and shocks!!

    We are leaving Adelaide 23/6/12 for Cooper Pedy.
    Then 25/6/12 leave Cooper Pedy via Anne Beadell Highway arriving in Laverton2/7/12
    Be interested to know if this is this is enough time. We plan to have one rest day on the Highway.
    From Laverton we will return via Kalgoolie-Eucla arriving home 11/7/2012

    Will search other sites for more information but would appreciate any feedback from other PP's

    Yes, I can confirm that voyager4x4 did return in one piece. He's busy with work interstate at the moment.
    He did say that it was a fantastic trip. His bashplates didn't fare so well though.

        Hope so. I seem to be missing everyone else's deadline.
        I tried to sell him some but he has higher priorities, one of which is correcting the incorrectly specified OME suspension. The installer put in the wrong springs and he was dragging his bum and the front was pretty low too. Hence the knocks to the factory bashplates.

          We did the Anne Beadell west to east a couple of years ago, the section between Mabel Creek and Emu was very badly corrugated, heard things had not changed much. The rest of the trip was fairly straight forward you are traveling parallel with the sand dunes most of the time and they are not that high so do not present too much of a problem. Last I heard fuel and showers were still available approximately 150 to 160Ks inside the WA border, I think from memory it is Ilkurkla. Will have a look on ExploreOz.

          Anyway was a great trip, bit narrow in places so don't be too precious about your paint, we had just come down the Canning so were pre-scratched. Although there is not a lot left around Emu it is a amazing to get a feel of the history of the place and see what went on there, the power of the bombs is hard to imagine.

          Don't forget conditions can change from year to year, but no matter what people say just get out there and do it.

            Just had a look at the ExploreOz site and top of the list was the Anne Beadell. This link should give you a lot of info, the notes are from west to east but you should be able to reverse it.
