I must say I am a bit confused about which part is going to be the adventure? Looks like most of it will be on the blacktop, you are driving past the Flinders Ranges, missing the Oodnadatta track, the Painted Desert not visiting the East and West Macs, Palm Valley, Kings Canyon..... I could go on.
If staring out the windscreen looking at the blacktop is your idea of a holiday then go for it. Personally we try and keep averages around the 200-250kms a day, and we don't spend much time relaxing, just lots of time seeing all the things that you miss if you don't get out of the car.

Personally i would travel less and see more, but each too their own.

It's not the perfect trip by a long way Andrew but it's a trip, we're not in a position to be able to take more time and living on the east coast it's a bloody long way to the centre no matter what way you look at it. for us it's an opportunity to see a part of the country that we've always wanted to see and visit some relo's around the country we haven't seen for years hence the return via Qld. yes we're missing out on a lot of stuff but isn't that better than not doing it at all.

My sister and her husband waited till their retirement bought a 4by and a van and started their dream trip 2 months into it my brother in law has a massive heart attack and is now permanantly hooked to an oxygen bottle, another couple we know did the same retired sold up and bought a winnebago the husband died before they even took a trip.
So from my perspective sure I could just do a smaller trip or wait till everything is right but hey who the hell knows what tomorrows going to bring.
So yep might not be everyones idea of a great adventure but for us to get out see this part of Aus is an adventure for us and maybe we'll get back and say Crikey won't do that again but at least we're out there giving it a crack unfortunately we're not all in a position either time wise or financially to be able to spend weeks or months at a time travelling doesn't mean we shouldn't give it a crack and at least see some of it.

Personally, it's not for me... too many hours driving. Gees, I've done plenty of long trips in my time... but only when getting there was my priority. But each to their own. If it means choosing between not going or not getting out and about in the Prado, then I would rather do something.

Good luck with the trip... and make sure you drive safe, take breaks and stop to take a few photos when you can so you can share with us when you return.
