  • Looking for drives west of Brisvegas

    Hi Folks

Anybody know of any drives west of Brisvegas, Glasshouse, Conandale, Mt Mee, Ormeau have all been done heaps.

Maybe a day drive with some challenging sections, I understand there are some tracks around Spring Mountain, maybe some of the PPer's from Ipswich to Toowoomba know some places?

See ya on the tracks, Richo.

    Some forests out Benarkin/Yarraman way

    Links to some videos.

First was 2009 and we camped at Emu Creek, which is still closed after the recent floods.

Hill climb done at 36PSI which should have really been 24 or so on the BFG's

Second was later in 2011 and way more overgrown in areas and the best tracks had been graded very recently and were very loose.

There's a good track from north Toowoomba down to Murphy's Creek. I don't remember the access point which doesn't help you any, but go onto 4x4earth.com.au and look up tracks there which people have logged. This one is on it. I've logged a trip report on this one as well as one I did near Boonah (Milbong to Kooralbyn) as well on the 4x4earth website.

With the Toowoomba to Murphy's Ck track, I've only driven it once. It's a descent all the way and steep in places. I'd love to try the other way going up the hill. The couple in the 120 series Prado that was with us had done the track many times before, but when we went it was the first time since the Jan floods. They said it used to be a walk in the park, but when we went it was difficult and slow going in parts. To warn you, the track is pretty erroded and for the most part has a massive rut snaking through the middle of it and at some places you have to cross the rut where people have filled it in with surrounding timber. It gets as deep 4 feet and nearly spans the track width of tyres in some places and you'll need someone standing infront of your car telling you where to point your wheels so you don't slip into the rut. There's some bog holes with steepish exits and plenty of side tracks you can take for increased difficulty. Make sure you go with at least one other car. There's also a section of creek bed you can drive for a few hundred meters with moderate diffculty and maybe some rock shifting required. The side track to get down to it is approx 300 meters long and very rutted which will have a wheel off the ground regularly. the drop into the creek is 3m and very steep, but dooable. If you can't find the track on 4x4earth and are keen to do it let me know and I'll find the exact entry point.

The Milbong to Kooralbyn track is a goody too with very steep hills. I crapped myself on one descent there after we went up it because it turned out to be a dead end we thought. The GU Patrol with me took a few attempts just to get up it.

I've just added some urls for you for ease of finding these tracks:

Sounds fantastic I have done one track in that area that started at Hampton and ended up coming out at Helidon. The terrain was rough and very loose rocks but a good drive.

I'll follow up on your suggestion and put up a trip.

See us on the tracks, Richo.

I'm not familiar with that one. It sounds good. If it went through the Lockyer State forest then I'll have to wait a couple of years before doing it because the forest tracks have been closed since January 2011... Much like Mt Mee.
