Humbert Track

Has anyone done the Humbert track, how rough was it and is there some good camp spots along the way. Thanks for any info.

A few years ago I did some of the tracks in the Gregory NP area you're talking about.

I entered from the north near Timber creek and camped at Limestone Gorge for a few nights. Did the Bulita Stock Route as a day trip. This was quite a slow, rocky drive but easily doable by a Prado. Not a bad drive, but nowhere near as good as the southern tracks.

I then left heading south over the Humbert Track. I turned off the Humbert track and kept going south on the Wickham Track and Gibbie Track and exited the NP near Daguragu and onto the Buntime Hwy. This drive was a two day drive (I camped over night near a river crossing north of Paperback yard. Very nice spot and the river crossing area was shallow and clear enough to cool down in without croc worries when I was there).

During the drive there is some excellent views as you get higher up on the ridges. The tracks were definitely 4WD only, quite rocky and slow going. Most of my travel was in 1st and 2nd gear, with a rare moment in 3rd gear. Nearly all high range though. There was only a need for low range on a couple of the jump-ups heading up/down the ridge spurs.
A Prado setup for touring (2" suspension lift with good offroad tyres would be fine. The rocks can be sharp, so ensure 2 spare tyres or tyre repair gear. I had no issues, but there were a few cuts to tread blocks, etc).

If you enjoy remote travel (I never saw another vehicle once past the Bulita homestead) and are self sufficeint, etc - which I assume you are - theses are some great tracks to drive and enjoy in the dry.

Hema do a good map of the Gregory NP which accuratly shows the tracks (at least according to my GPS and ozi explorer).

I was at the crossing at Bullita HS in July......looks like a long and interesting crossing. I was not planning to cross but if you were then I would try to contact the ranger there. Neil
