I will be there in Sept too. We are staying in the unpowered sites at Cathedrals. Hoping to take a Conqueror 490 camper with me for a test run.

I was there last year first week of September school holidays. Great weather and had a great time.

I was also on Fraser for a weekend in March.

We were in Cathedrals the week before Easter and whilst being a great spot, and great to have the added convenience of powered site, the Dingos were a nuisance. One in particular was very aggressive, it was mating time so by September it might have calmed down a bit but depending on the age of your kids keep a close eye on them. My kids are 6,5 and 3 and never let them out of our sight.

Wish I was going back already though, a great spot to be. If anyone wants any more info drop me a PM.

Not sure if you have been before but we managed to get across to the Western beaches this trip, just a bit up from Moon point and was the best beach we have ever been too anywhere!

                Cheers

I've not long got back from a week camping at Waddy Point. We just did tent camping (no trailer), but the other two families shared a rental house at Orchid Beach, which is something I'll seriously look at next time I go. They paid a whisker under $800 for the house for the week (under $400 for each family). In the past they went with camper trailers, but their reasoning was that by renting the house they paid less in barge fees, used less fuel, didn't need to take as much stuff, didn't have to share the amenities block, and had overall much more comfort. Especially compared to renting a camp-trailer, the house looks very attractive.

Yeah it's still a reasonably priced holiday. I was just throwing the option out there, because in the past I hadn't even considered it, but after seeing the relative comfort these families had, for not a lot of money more than I spent roughing it, I reckon the house is a great option - especially if you can share the cost with another family.

Fraser is a great place. I'd love to go back soon, although the minister for war and finance isn't so sure - she wasn't real impressed with the sand, so it will probably be a while before we go back. The week we spent there was way too short, although it didn't help that everyone else in the group had car trouble, so that stopped some of the touring we were planning on doing. A planned tour to Awinya Ck, down the west coast to Woralie Ck and back across to the East coast, came to an end when one of my mates got a hole in his 90 series Prado's radiator, almost at Awinya Ck. I ended up towing him back to Eli Ck. I must say, my 120 did an awesome job. 35km and 1.5 hours of pulling in low range, up and down some quite large hills, over some very rutted tracks, through a quite deep water crossing, and over quite a bit of very soft sand, and my car didn't skip a beat.

The other family had a Terracan and it also had some issues. It has a weird method of engaging 4WD with a vacuum actuator on the front diff. That failed so he was stuck in 2WD, until we managed to lock the actuator in place with a hose clamp. With the troubles the other cars were having, we weren't game to try anything challenging like a trip up to Sandy Cape which we had originally planned to do. It also put me on edge cos things often happen in threes! So if I were to offer one word of advice - make sure your car is in tip-top condition before you head up there.

Anyway, hope you have a great time :-)

Mate you'll love Fraser, I used to live in the Bay and was over there all the time as a kid. Two things I can suggest, there's no such thing as "mating time" for dingo's, they're just another dog, so don't trust them ever! Full stop! And keep in mind the fishing closure for August and September for Tailor which extends from 400m south of Indian Head to 400m north of Waddy Point. Of course that doesn't mean you can't catch them else where and I personally think the west side is better fishing anyway (just not for Tailor).

Good luck and have a ball! Cheers,
                          Dusty
