NSW: Fryingpan Cabbage Tree Road report

Hi all,

Tam and I went away for a couple of nights for our Wedding Anniversary and stayed at the RiverWood Downs Resort in a cabin... Magic little place and great hospitality.

The first day we spent bushwalking around the area, before the walk we were told that there had been a new fence installed along the track and we would have to work out which side to be on to get back to the main road as it was electric although it should be switched off... Yeah well it wasn't LOL and I had to be the one to find out when we realised we were on the wrong side hahahahaha...

The next day we went for a drive into Dungog and surrounds. On the way in we came across a Python on the side of the road and stopped to take a pic or two. Tam dared me to touch it, so I did (you think I would have learnt from the electric fence). I thought i'd go all 'FISHNUT' styles on this snake and pick him up.... Yeah well.... he didn't appreciate my advances and swung around at me... Needless to say I left him alone after that... We spent the day doing the Touristy stuff and checked out Morpeth as well.

We finally made it back to RiverWood Downs and just in time for dinner before the resturant closed....

On our way home the next day, we went up to the Barrington House and discovered that it had burnt down 6 years ago (DOH!) so we decided to go on a walking trail and Tam found somones digital camera, we went through the photos and I noticed an Blue FG Falcon in one shot. I was pretty sure I spotted a car of the same colour back at the Barrington Cabins so we went and had a look and sure enough there was a Blue Falcon. We couldn't see the number plate in the pics and then owners weren't around so we spoke to the caretaker and he confirmed that the people in the pics were the owners of the Falcon... We left the camera with the caretaker.







Along the track we had a Bush Turkey stroll out infront of us and no more than 50 metres further along we spotted a Liar Bird...

On our way back to Muswellbrook, Tam rescued a turtle from the road and relocated it and then we came across an old fella who had lost control of his car after swerving for a Kangaroo.. Another passerby gave us a hand to watch traffic and hook up which was good of him.... Gary was a very lucky man as he ended up sideways and slid across damp grass on about the only wide section of verge on the road between Dungog and East Gresford. 15 metres either side were trees and he managed to get out unscathed with no damage to his car.









We made sure he was OK and calmed him down a bit as he was in a bit of shock. Assessd the situation, checked over the car and hooked up the snatch strap and pulled him out. Checked over his car again and followed him to a Servo in East Gresford where we looked over the car again.

We then followed him back to Muswellbrook...

All in all it was a terrific couple of days in an area that I haven't been in for over a decade.. Tam was a trooper and fought off Leeches and didn't stress too much with our little offroad adventure and we had a fantastic Wedding Anniversary..

nice one . sure beats goin to a resturant . did the liar bird have red feathers and a big arse and keep moving forward ? . i know how the old bloke feels , i once swerved to miss a pink wombat , didn't end so well .

Wow, that was an event filled anniversary. Talk about memorable times!
