Lake Eyre Sth is the only part of the lake where visible see water from the ground. This is easy to get to as u can see the water from the road as u go past. You can stop at the lookout carpark and take the long walk down to the water's edge... that's if u can get to it w/o sinking in mud. The walk down will be getting longer and longer as time goes by as the water quickly disappears....
After all the flood waters that headed down in that direction, I thought it would have taken ages for it to disappear, but sadly that isn't the case. You can still flights over the lake and I think the cheapest location is at William Creek
We should have gotten out there last year as that would have been the ideal time..... The surprising thing is there is still a fair bit of water lying around. Most waterholes we past had water in them, then there's the BIG Lake just on the eastern side of BIG RED. This I reckon is more of a sight to see than Lake Eyre as some of the locals who have lived in the area all their lives have never seen that much water (ie: a Lake) on the eastern approach side of Big Red.... makes for some fantastic photo opportunities..... Well worth just going out to see that alone
