  • Condamine river rd Sun 10th June

We headed out today having watched the weather the last few days to ensure we had a good chance of the road being open. Rendesvous with the relos who drove up from nsw in Rathdowney, then headed up to Condamine Rvr rd. After narrowly escaping a cruiser who decided reverse without looking was a great idea, we headed up the range. All sealed road and a nice diversion to the normal route via boonah.

Once through the first river crossing on the actual track we aired down. It had just rained and the mud and rocks were making things rather slippery. Met a few other drivers along the way and exchanged banter on the two way as they bagged me for carrying 2 sets of maxtrax. They weren't needed but we did have one good sideways manoeuvre on the stock tyres.

All the river crossings were what I'd call low but we did manage to scrape on one rock upon entry to the crossing. Glad i had the lift kit fitted. If you took it slow in a soft-roader you could make it through with the track the way it was today. Just bumpy and plenty of lumps and slippery stuff away from the actual river crossings.

We headed back via queen mary falls for lunch and then off to white swamp rd, state border camera (big brother is watching even in the bush!) and then the back way past maroon dam. Nice loop to do this way and we eventually dropped out of the clouds and got to see the view.

We'll definitely head back on a clear day. The mist gave the drive a unique feel however there's more to the area that it prevented us from seeing. Easy day trip too as we stopped in Rathdowney for over an hour this morning and still had ourselves home early after 5.

If your heading up this way soon I hope you get to enjoy the views. Chrs, Wazza

The condomine run is always a favorite of mine. Good for giving the underside a good wash out after a beach run too!

Only took a handful of pics on the track itself as it was drizzlinging at the time.

Misty mountains making it feel very much like winter

A hearty lunch being warmed up on the DIY trektable. Great choice of food for the day!

A healthy amount of water coming over the falls I see.
Looks like a great way to spend a wintry day

We went through the gorge on the Mayday long weekend. It was the first time I did it since I got the Prado, last time I went through was in my Commodore. It's changed a bit since then, and I think it would be a bit of a struggle in the Commodore now. We did the road West to East. All the water crossings were pretty straight forward - most were clear enough that I didn't feel the need to walk them first. The only one that was a little doubtful was the 2nd from the western end, but just as I was about to hop out and have a look, a group of softroaders came ploughing through from the other direction, so I figured I'd have no issues, and I didn't. I don't have a snorkel, so I'm a little cautious about crossing potentially deep water.

They'd had a bit of rain a couple of days prior, and although it didn't cause water crossing problems, there were a couple of sections that were quite muddy and a bit cut up - a couple of little slips, but nothing that came close to us getting stuck.

Here's a bit of video doing the 2nd water crossing from the western end. This wasn't the deepest, nor the longest crossing, but it was a good combination of both.

You did it easily geograzza. That same water crossing in your vid i saw a crv i think it was go barrelling thru in front of me. Their car was bouncing all over the place and possibly reworking the underbody on any rocks. The speed you did it should have been their method.

Re the snorkel, I did go thru a creek and end up with water over the bonnet in my old 120. She had no bullbar though so it was all quite sealed up around the wheel arch. I think you have good reason to gain approval for a snorkel to be fitted so you can play safely. Much better safe than sorry when exploring the likes of Condamine rvr

ID:	644428Went out with some mates to Condamine River crossings yesterday, 1st June 13. Had a great time, some good depth. One crossing would have been a good 3ft at its deepest. We entered from the Spring Creek Road side 500m south from White Swamp road (have to zoom right in on google maps to see it). Really recommend it!
