Thought I'd post up a trip from the N.T if any of you guys are ever up this way Kakadu is definitely worth a visit. You may have heard about it before but Gunlom was made popular after being used in Crocodile Dundee for certain scenes.
Gunlom can be reached off the Kakadu Highway either from the south or north end. Early after the wet there are crossings but most have concrete fords now and dry up pretty quickly. As much as it has been suggested the dirt roads are not maintained, other than the fixes needed to reach the place after the wet. To my surprise upon reaching the camp ground and day visit site there were some cars there, they must have driven very slow, as corrugations were rife and so were many large protruding and loose rocks on the track, luckily I had the Prado to soak it all up. Either way a 4WD makes the trip so much better, but engaging 4WD will not be needed on this track.
Anyway not to far from the waterfall is heaps of camping space, toilet blocks and showers and plenty of shaded grassed area to picnic for the day, and of course that awesome swimming spot with crystal clear water and a white sandy bottom. There is also a walking path to the top of the falls with rockholes to swim in as well.
The Prado on the sealed bit of track just outside of the day area, waterfall in the back ground.
