Sad story but glad you had a great trip. My Dad died very suddenly two days before our trip to Central Australia almost two years ago. I am glad that it happened then rather than when we were out in the middle of nowhere as there was about a week when we had no phone contact at all.Michael and Kelly

Trev ,
great write up,great country you seen there. Must be the 1st time that i have shed a tear whilst reading the pradopoint forum.
Your writeup is a stark reminder of the precious gift that is life. That spending quality time with your kids/family is so important. I hold a view that family trips are far more important than the things that we can get caught up with in life,[house, jobs etc all important but an aside to family life] and often ask people if they can remember the colour of their bedroom when they where a kid [which is usually no],and then asked them if they can remember family holidays. My girls still talk ,drag out photos, videos of our family trips either by ourselves or like you on this trip with other quality folk, and these kids are now 18- 20 years old .
Hope you get out there on the road again soon .

Hi Tony
With regards to the campers, set-up is very simple and can be done easily by one person. It's a matter of flipping over the hard-floor and extending 2 poles and you are done. No exaggeration - probably 5 minutes from pulling up to being set-up.
There is a 'bedroom' that can be zipped on the end of the tent which gets the kids off the hard-floor giving us more room inside. That only took a few minutes to setup but if we were just doing an overnighter we didn't bother. Without it the is only about a foot of floor space with 2 camping mats down, so very little floor room.
I didn't pack-up single handedly but think it wouldn't be too hard, just take longer than with two people.
Kimberley have some videos on their site showing the set-up / pack-up - they really are quick.

Excellent write up, and a memorable trip no doubt. The kids certainly enjoy these trips. I know mine do.
Re - the KK. Having hired one, and various other brands, I agree that they are an excellent camper. Easy set up and pack up. It is definitely the camper I'm aiming to own in the future. My only issue was the weight. It's probably the heaviest camper I've towed. How did you find this aspect of it? It's certainly difficult to manouvre when not on the car due to its weight.Diesel Prado with various things...

Hey Trev out of curiosity what sort of figure did it cost to hire the campers, would love to have one but couldn't justify the cost to use ratio, this may be a great option for the times we need a camper.

Drj, from memory the KK was around $800/wk including the 75l fridge and awning+sleep-out. For us a much cheaper option than buying.
Ian, I've towed one before and the weight was noticeable but OK. It is heavy to move around so reversing directly onto the hitch was necessary. I have a modst suspension lift and rear poly-airs and that helped a lot - Grovesy has a lift but no air bags and his rear was noticeably saggier.
