Looking for suggestions - Vic High Country, Snowy Mountains

My wife and I will be driving down for the Avalon Airshow next March and the plan is to take a week meander our way down beforehand and then another week on the way back in the trusty prado. We'd like to see the Vic High Country and the Snowy Mountain region.

I'd appreciate any suggestions for tracks we could do as through runs or day trips (we won't be using any million star motels, only 3 stars up to 5 I'm told). One I've seen briefly on Youtube is the Blue Rag track. Can it be done as a day trip out of Milawa or nearby for example?

Any info is much appreciated.

We have done the western side the High Country is huge you could drive arounf dor months and not go over the same tracks. Places I can recomend are Harrietville (Snowline Hotel), Dargo (this is where everybody stops for a beer and photo) or Mt Hotham resort.


You can get to Blue Rag track from all of these for a day drive. Mt Hotham have run a 3 day 4WD event around March in the past where you do day drives and then back to the resort each night. Drive4Life have their event there in March but this is definately million stars and 95% low range for around 500k's



I'll put the maps in Falcoon and you can pick em up from the office if you like.

From miliwa, you can head across to mansfield and take tracks from howqua, starting at symes track off howqua river road. The tracks from there link up the entire high country. My suggestion would be to head to mt sunday and then to buthcer country track. You will end up at howitt high plains. Take Zekka spur through to wonangatta and billy goats. Pinnacles as shown below is a fire lookout, and is one of the highest of the high country. You can then take the road from dargo through to hotham, or head towards swifts creek and eventually you will end of in the snowy's..... some much exploring to do. Wish i was out there right now.
