  • I am locked in for this - will be my first PradoPoint event
I will have my 7 YO son - wife and daughter have declined.
We will be swagging with no trailer.

I am of two minds about hanging around for the races - I haven't been to Birdsville before, let alone during the races so will be tempted to play it by ear - I have a feeling I'd enjoy it on a blokes trip but with my son the crowds might be a bit of a turnoff. If no one else shoots off early I'll probably hang around just to stay with the group - I'm sure a few cold beers will help me enjoy the atmosphere I'll chat to a few people who have been before to find out what it's like i guess and make my mind up closer to the date.

Would be keen to do the dig tree on the way home.

Happy to chip in on hire of a Sat Phone.

Will probably do the parks pass ahead of time so i can have a read through the material.

Came across a copy of Pat Callinan's Simpson crossing - was a very long advert for Nissan, Thule, Cooper Tyres and Nissan. They also talk about Patrol's, and even talk to a random Patrol owner they came across - so don't bother if you haven't already seen it.

    Already excited!!

Do you happen to have the trek ID of that one? I had a quick look and there were a few Simpson desert ones but I couldn't find the one that was 636km long. Most were straight down one line or another. I'm more than happy to follow you guys on whatever route you choose but keen to have a look at the route if you've chosen one.

Yeah, I'm not taking the kids so I hope nobody will be offended if I do sidle off to partake in the thick of things a bit.

          • Hi All,
What is the approx number of vehicles going?

Also, I will have a Codan NGT HF fitted, by middle June - connected to VKS737 and Radphone.
At this stage my Father will be attending in his Toyota Landcruiser Tray, to assist me, if needed.
We will also have the following:
            11,000kgs Snatch Strap
            8,000kgs Snatch Strap
            Maxtrax
Recovery Bridle (for front of my Prado)
Honda 20i Generator, just in case we need it.

Just to name a few items.

For us, this trip will be our 3rd crossing, but 20 years since we did it last, and I think the first, West to East.

Stuart 11 or 12 could be more depending on where people meet up or who decides to come last minute .

                    • Hi All,

                      Thanks for the info.

I thought there were more than that, somewhere around 20 ish.

But never the less, 12 or so is still a good size to manage.

FYI, like some others, we won't be hanging around Birdsville. We will do a splash (fuel, as I will need anywhere between 160-210L) and dash and camp out of town.

                      • You know, I was thinking, do we really need 2 spares for this trip?
If you were on your own sure, but having so many Prados, surely we would have enough spare tyres.......
I think there is room for other tools & spares & recovery gear & water that once again we could all make use of if we didn't need to load an extra spare.
I was Just reading the other thread about the extra spare & it seems only Malcolm Douglas needed 2.

                        What do others think?

I was only taking one and a tyre repair kit. I've got a new set of coopers st maxx too though so I hope that'll do. I agree though, with so many prados going we should be right.

                            • Hi All,

Does anyone have a Remote Area First Aid Kit?

If not, Are people interested in Chipping In $40.00 / Vehicle and I will supply a Kit.
This way everyone has access to the kit, but I retain ownership, and restock it.

The Kit is $470.00 and covers everthing needed - http://www.firstaidkitsaustralia.com...tem.asp?id=476

And who is a Qualified First Aider? If no one, then it will be a case of All care No Responsability.

Also, just an update - I will now be Tenting (No trailer) and will have Rear Air Locker fitted, with Lift kit (OME) + Snorkel fitted and my Father will have his L/C Cab Chassis as well.

                                Hi Stuart,

Before you buy one, check eBay to make sure you can't get it cheaper there. This one is only $420 delivered and looks the same at first glance:

                                http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com.au/vi...id=65819099305

As for first aid kits, I've got myself a pretty good one (http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com.au/vi...id=83105612173) and I've added to it to set it up for remote touring (a heap of extra bandages, burnaid and betadine and a sampling of most over the counter drugs for anything we're likely to be afflicted with). As most people have their own kits with varying degrees of stuff in them, I reckon we'll have most situations covered and should be able to combine kits if anything serious comes up. Happy to hear other people's thoughts though.

I've also just re-done my first aid training including CPR and Defib training (a defibrillator would be nice to have with us but probably out of our price range). As with all first aid though, we'll do our best within our training to help but as you say, all care but no responsibility.

                                Tiny
