Great pics there mrkrinkle, the video was great. Would have been a huge difference in temps over the trip. I havnt actually seen a video of climbing big red close up like that. Really shows what its like. I wonder how many people have launched them selves over the top as it looks like a good drop off...... Looks like you had a great trip. Would have been hard not to get bogged on that soft sand where you did as you would not have been able to keep up a good momentum due to the extreme humps you encountered, would have been fun all the same.....Great Report........Cheers Steve

        Hey Will,

Nice trip, you really like driving man, more than me. It looks like you were alone and loving it!
You are definitely a crazy man, I wouldn't do that alone. Really good to see you can & did well done.
Also good to see the trusty Prado didn't let you down.
What sort of mileage did you get or the trip?
        What's the next big trip?

Looks like you had a ball, definetly did some Km's! The videos great and good to see the Krinkle truck didn't let you down! We'll have to find some open tracks and get out and play.
            150 with stuff bolted on!

Looks like a good trip, did you get up the hard track at big red in the end?

The road to Mount hopeless looks way better then when I went across it.

Certainly a nice variety of conditions to drive through.

              Cheers Andrew

What a fantastic range of terrain to cover. Great images and a nicely edited video, thanks for sharing your trip with us.

Your first attempt at Big Red looked just like mine. That hard track requires less tyre pressure and more momentum to be able to crest than any other dune across the Simpson.

                  I averaged 14.78 ltr / 100km over the 7,637km

$1,954 in fuel at an average price of $1.73/ltr

Highest fuel price was Innamincka @ $2.24

Nah didn't make it up the steep track on big Red Andrew. Had a couple of goes and probably could of it i'd lowered pressures further and persevered but couldn't be bothered with that!

Wasn't even originally planning to the Simpson #### but I was ahead of schedule and the rain had closed tracks around Lake Eyre where I had planned to go so I made last minute plans in Cooper Pedy and just went for it ;-) There was a fair bit of traffic on the French Line at this time of year. There was a brand new Triton ahead of me on the line that apparently broke his chassis (where tray starts on the dual cab). The RACQ came out and did a temporary weld job to get him out!

                  Finally got an interactive map sorted here;

Used the MotionX iphone app to track the whole trip.

Couldn't use Google Maps as the file size was too big but found Zee maps and that seemed to work...

Yep that about sums it up Anders!

Had sat phone, PLB, plenty of food, water (& plenty of grog), MaxTrax, and maps. You only live once!

Managed to pick up the dodgy sand flag at a servo in Cooper Pedy as that was the only thing I didn't have.

Glad I did after a few heart stopping moments at the top of dunes!

Ended up broadcasting my position to all and sundry every 15 min or so and that helped a lot too.
