  • Well, we followed Chippy through the Mandurah Car Park and headed up North to visit Tam's pop, then arrived home at 415pm... Unpacked, fueled back up, cleaned the interior, degreased the engine bay and gave her a good ol scrub... Good as new...

Thankyou all very much for your hospitality and the great company... Met some top people and we're happy we stayed the extra night, even if we did see a bit of the Harvey country side and nearly drove into the weir on the way to the CBD     Bloody GPS's ops:

Got heaps of good photos and a few videos but I wont get around to posting them for a bit as I fly out again tomorrow morn...

    Thanks again.

    Mitch, Tam and Hayden

P.S. Fishnut, by the time we made it home, the caterpillar had completed his/her cocoon...

    • Ummmmm, no piccies from me.
I have just had the next thing go wrong this weekend.
1st was the rear tank on the camper. sprung a leak.
2nd was the pump for the front tank on the camper. jammed...
3rd was the brake smell when we pulled into Pinjarra liquorland, seized slave cylinder in the drum brakes on the camper. (pulled off hub/drum to check)
4th was a split rear door to the Prado around the hinge. (will post pics soon) Going into see the friendly folk at Toyota to see if its warranty.

Now its the electronic version of opening the door on the old film camera.
The cf card chucked a wobbly and needed reformating. ZAP there goes all the pics.
Got some video but need to play with that a bit.

:-( work tomorrow...... but only a 4 day week :-)

Pulled off the campers drum and removed the offending stuck piston(rusted) from the slave cylinder, Polished her up and lubed her nicely. Looks as good as new.
Just need to bleed the brakes and that should be right to go.

Was surprised i heard you chippy when you were in Mandurah over the UHF. im a good 8- 9 K's from there and could hear you loud and clear. Not bad from a broken aerial. (thats another thing that broke, but just before the weekend.) I think I have used up all my bad luck for at least a few months.......

      Jeff.
Reminds me of my safari in Africa. Somebody forgot the corkscrew and for several days we had to live on nothing but food and water.

      • Thats nasty Jeff!!

We got home to find that our cat hadn't been seen for two days (the other one dissapeared last camping trip!), but it came back late last night... and that the retic was switched off as a sprinkler had blown apart (that's right blew apart) and also that our neighbours had left the dogs in the backyard, holes dug, crap everywhere and Haydens trampaline destroyed, plus garden mulch spread across the entire backyard....

And I thought that was bad enough!!!

        Chin up mate

            • Far out Jeff, might be time for a spare wheel carrier! I was thinking last night mine had dropped. I pull on the handle till about half way when it gets real tight and then opens with a clunk. Not nice at all. Keep us posted but mine is an 04 anyway so it's my problem if it does fall off one day!

The Kooka that was perched on Matt and Tam's rig and more than likely the same one that didn't like the netting on their shade shelter....

I'm not sure what Matt was doing here? Holding up his skirt maybe?

The kids were trying to stop the water flow through here...

                By blocking it here!

                  • Looks like a great weekend had by all. Still looks like plenty of water considering how dry it's been in the West.

Where did you actually end up camping?

Used to always camp at Charlies Flat in Lane Poole - still one of our favourite spots.

                    • G'day John

Charlie's flat would have been OK but couldn't cater for 10 or so families in the same spot. Baden Powell and Nanga Mill are the only two spots that can cater for larger groups but have a tendency to fill up fairly quickly ...

We wound up staying at Hoffman's Mill .... close enough to enjoy all the benefits of the Lane Poole reserve but far enough away to avoid all the feral animals

                      Cheers

                      • OK, a couple of updates:

The snake was a Carpet Python (not Children's or Stimson's)

The lily that was so popular was an Easter or Belladonna Lily. It is from South Africa, part of the daffodil family and the bulb is poisonous

                        • Aha .... I love travelling with a font of knowledge like you, Fishnut.

Every trip we learn something new about our country ..... its fantastic.

... and thanks also for a fantastic lead all weekend. I don't know many blokes who can drive a track .... then jump on google earth and draw an accurate mudmap from memory .... and lead a group of tourists, all weekend, with only minor hiccups. Well done.

I mean, lets face it, even Mitch's GPS had trouble finding Harvey

                          Cheers

Dont know how long it took as I gave up waiting and went to bed.

But its fishnut (or is it snakenut) with our long cold blooded friend.

                                Thanks Chippy,

It was a pleasure. And thanks to everyone for being patient when we weren't quite sure where we were - wasn't it the blonde leading the blind?

And Mitch - the GPS might not have got you to Harvey easily, but I reckon it helped us figure out the so-called un-named tracks
