    CAIRNS TO COOKTOWN AND BACK -700KM DAY

    Well i felt like taking the prado on a bit of a drive and had not been to Cooktown so what the hell.

    Here are a couple of photos and a bit of a yarn..



    this is on the way and what the area looks like north of Cairns.. took the inland road up as the coast tracks are closed due to all the rain and swollen rivers...






    on the way saw some interesting land marks... the Black mountains ... these mountains of black boulders and rocks are steeped in myth... herds of cattle and many people have disappeared in here ne
    ver to be seen again...





    every river and creek from cairns to cooktown were still running hard from the immense rain recently...

    here are a few land marks..








    went to the Cooktown museum and saw the anchor and canon from CAPTAIN COOKS ship the Endeavour.. actually was very interesting...

    i picked a pretty bad day as the wind was 40knts and the rain was horizontal..


    .





    so all in all was a good run... oh i forgot to mention the highway is great 110 km all the way, unless you hit a big black crow . my uhf arial took him out first then bounced off the windsceen...no photos sorry wasnt stopping for him!!







    so second last stop was at the famous Lyons Den hotel... one of the oldest pubs in queensland and a must stop in ...







    last for the day was a stop for the day .. had to call into the mighty Barron Falls , and it was cranking!!!







    so all in all was a great day and my rig didnt miss a beat.. even down the bloomfield was awsome....

      Hey .. great stuff Joey. What an awesome bit of the country.

      Here's a couple of my pics from Barron Falls ... taken back at the end of July, last year ..... there's certainly a bit more water around now :shock: :shock: 8)

            tis certainly a few more litres flowing over those falls than the last photo i took! not going to have time to get up there this trip which is a shame!

              I have been to Cooktown so many times but always love the drive. The last couple of times I have been restricted to the inland way, but the coast way is soo much better. Last time I did the coast way it only took 9 hours to get home. Didn't even hit a cassowary through Cape Trib :lol: :lol:
              Great photos Joey, made me feel like I was almost there.
