....is now closed. We spent the Canberra day weekend at Wombeyan Caves and did a run through Limeburner's to Yerranderie. Signs up at the caves stating that Limeburner's Flat was being 'closed for rehabilitation'. I queried the Wombeyan ranger about how long the 'rehabilitation' would take and when it would re-open. The reply was 'indefinite'!!!
The fellow at Yerranderie informed us that NPWS had recently subsumed the land after the lease on Limeburner's expired. That occured about 6 months ago and now it's being closed off. Yet another free camping site has been closed off to access to anyone but those fit enough, young enough or plenty of spare time to walk to.
The Limeburner's track is (was) moderately challenging, particularly the climb out on the eastern side. The track was in good shape and the only 'damage' we could see is the boghole where the old track used to run through the trees. It's not like the place was overrun, either. On a long weekend, there was one family group camped there.
Also the Sydney Catchment Authority seems to be closing off a lot of land in that area. There was a lot of new signs either side of the Yerranderie road, declaring them as 'Special Areas', with no access, even for walkers. The SCA has closed any access off from the SYdney side past Lake Burogorang (Warragamba), evan for the Yerranderie locals. So now instead of a 50km drive to Penrith, they face a 6 hour trip via Goulburn.
So if you were planning a trip into Limeburner's Flat - you're TOO LATE!!!
