  • CityView 4x4 Park 12-Apr-2008

Thanks to wengnuts (Kel) for organising this adventure. It was a picture perfect day for this outing.

This was my first trip with other forum members, and what a treat it was to meet everyone. A real easy going group with similar interests and we all had a ball. Fun and safety in numbers!

From L2R: Phil - Delica, dB - VX Prado, Matt (LiveFreeAndRoam) & Frank (Dad ) - GXL Prado, Bob & Judy (Delica), and Kel (Wengnuts) - Delica.

CityView was challenging and whilst we stuck to the Easy and Medium trails, there were hard and extreme trails for the hardcore.

The map leaves a lot to the imagination (not a good quality in a map  ).

Bob's Delica was a minor casualty of the poor map. I was glad to be coming up the rear when I heard the leaders call out not to come this way. Too late for them... they were on a hard (or was it extreme?) section and whilst they could turn around, Bob emerged with a dented rear fender.

Still, it never dented Bob's enthusiasm! and we pressed on.

Eventually we found a fun area with lots of climbs. Unfortunately, Kel had to leave for work at this stage, so that left two Delica's and two Prados.

At the top of the hill was a grassy knoll which made a picturesque picnic area. Bob kindly shared his shade... I gotta organise that setup for myself. Simple & cost-effective... my kind of thing.

    ... and breathtaking views.

We had quite some fun comparing articulation on this ramp. Boys will be boys . dB's VX with traction control won the day:

Though Phil's Delica look dangerously close to tip-over angle... he wasn't going to be outdone!

Whilst my GXL doesn't rate a mention on the articulation ramp, it took out the beauty-prize on "Poser Rock"

After lunch, we took some rutted trails that required a bit of track-rebuilding. It wasn't going to be the last time we had to rebuild tracks... more on that later. Phil needed to head back home, so now we have two Prados and Bob and Judy's Delica.

"Track 3" had some magnificent vistas and the beauty-prize winner (loser of the articulation ramp) could not help but get in the photos

Mind, Track 3 also had some serious drop-offs and required some very careful tyre placement. The adrenalin was flowing

dB did some trailblazing on his own... "watch out for browns!" - snakes that is!

    More great views...

Track 3 is supposed to be medium, though a couple of sections needed some serious work. My GXL took a scrape of the side steps and some serious lurching as opposite wheels took to the air! I wished I wasn't leading at that point  . Before others came over that section we filled in the hole with plenty of rocks and some careful guidance saw the others through without incident:

dB and Bob came down very safely:

The shadows grew long and the light was turning golden...

Soon we were saying goodbye to a great day out!
