  • Moreton Island Trip

We are thinking of going to Moreton Island for a few days to have a look around in our camper trailer. I would prefer in the next month or two as it "should" mean that there has been rain and the sandy tracks/beach should be fairly firm, as opposed to being very soft and difficult to traverse during the dryer months. My only other must is full moon period with low tide roughly in the middle of the day, so there are big outs.

Is there anyone on the forum who has experience camping on Moreton Island who would be prepared to offer some advice on camp sites, must see's etc.

I've been putting it off because of the barge prices compared to our other islands. It would have to be longer than a couple of days to warrant the price of barge. For me to take the prado , 2 kids & a trailer during peak times(Friday morning to Sunday arvo) would be $575. Beautiful spot anyway.
    Cheers Matt

Did Comboyuro campground for a week in early Dec. Great spot, no crowds (we were the only ones there for a night or two). Reasonable facilities: hybrid flush toilets, cold showers. Well protected and not much traffic beach side. Can have fires (essential IMHO). Close to Bulwar Shop for essentials.

      Things we did:
-did a loop of the northern end and back via middle road.
-did a clockwise loop of the southern end out via middle rd, and all the way back via the west beach. Beers at Kooringal
      - dunes just south of Tangalooma

      and much more....

Same as us Matt, the barge prices are just stupid, especially when you pay per person as well after the first 2.
