Rover Trail & Orara Escarpment - Coffs Harbour

Finally got out yesterday with a few mates and stuck into some local tracks, Coffs Harbour and surrounds is literally a big kids playground

Rover trail is north side of Coffs near a place called Korora. It has a few entry points. The start of the trail is off Gaudrons Rd and the other entry is Lovetts trail which brings you up into the trail about half way along.

We chose the latter as it is a challenging climb to join up with the Rover

This trail ends with some spectacular views, 2kms of sealed road past the end of the trail is the probably the best views of the Coffs coast you will ever encounter at Sealy lookout, Here we aired up our tyres and headed 15km south of Coffs to Boambee to start another Trail.

The Orara Escarpment Trail is a 4hr trek (one way) through the local rainforest up to Bindarri N.P. & Bangalore Falls, Not having the time we just did all the 4x4 stuff from this trip which still took about 3 hrs to get us to the turnoff for a 20mins trip back to Coffs.

Not as Rutted as The rover trail but it has some giant clay hills to climb, lots of mud holes and pin striping lantana that has overgrown parts of the track. For a full day out of fun with the family , this is the track to go on

Dead keen to give the rover trail a look. We're camping at Minnie waters for Easter so though we might day trip it one of the days. From what I hear that will give us a taste for it and we'll want to come back for a week but we'll day trip it first. Any idea how much rain there would need to be before the track is too difficult?

Tiny, you'll not want to do this trail alone just in case a bad line is taken (or most of them for that fact...) Have a look at a couple of other trip reports on from SE Qld Members who have ventured down to the Mecca that Coffs is...

Thanks Craig. Definitely wasn't planning to try it alone. Dad lives down there so I'd planned to talk him into coming with his hilux. Haven't told him yet. If you see this dad, are you in?

I've read all those, that's what got me interested in trying it out. Not looking for a hard core couple of days, just a taster while we relax for the rest of Easter and this seems like a good day trip from Minnie. If it's wet though, we might go out to station creek and pebbly beach for a look instead.

Not sure on that one, the day we went was still water around but we had a few days of decent weather.

The start of the Orara escarpment trail has a very steep climb up a clay hill. you wouldn't want to be half way up this baby and loose traction :P

Fingers crossed we don't get a lot of rain mate


Take Lovetts trail entry onto the Rover, thats if you want to avoid that big ass tree stump that is at the start of the Rover, A lot of guys having to winch past it or get pulled up.

This way brings you half way along the Rover, still a challenging climb without unnecessary damage to your rig

Good call on entering Rover via Lovetts. That Stump is nasty and unless you've got 35's or heaps of good articulation, you're breaking out the winch

Thanks Craig. I might take you up on that although looking at the weather forecast, there's supposed to be rain or showers in coffs for the rest of the week. I might plan for a full week down there exploring next year and just go out and have a look at station creek and maybe pebbly beach for a day trip this time.
